To think very few countries will let brits in with the current infection rates

Urbanhymngirl · 08/07/2021 18:24

32,000 cases today & 2500 in hospital (a rise on last week)

Cases are rising rapidly. Only 68% have had one dose, contrary to the vaccine propaganda.

Aibu to think that very few countries are going to want Brits coming in especially countries that have only vaccinated up to 50% of their populations- it’s madness.

All this hysteria about European summer holidays is really really misplaced!

Oh, and everyone is saying the 19th July fuck it and open up date is an epidemiological disaster

Well according to the statistics on the gov website, 86.6% of adults have had first dose, and 65.9% have had second.

Where I live it's much higher than that.

Are they lying?

DocDog · 08/07/2021 18:35

I know quite a few muppets that are choosing to not be vaccinated. Sad

poshme · 08/07/2021 18:36

And 3 people in my house have covid right now.
Yes, they're ill, but up and about round the house. Headache and sore throat, but that's about it.

Urbanhymngirl · 08/07/2021 18:42

It’s not even so much about vaccinated people as they can still spread it about. France have told their citizens to avoid holidays in Spain & Portugal

I would love to know how other countries are viewing us and how their own vaccination programmes are going.

newnortherner111 · 08/07/2021 18:48

I agree, though some countries may allow in those who are vaccinated.

Just remember who is responsible for this, as if India had been put on the red list sooner, the level of infections would be a lot lower.

No, but they are talking about adults not whole population which I assume OP is quoting. Under 18s get it and pass it on too….
Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/07/2021 18:58

Some wealthier countries will probably want to keep us out. I imagine countries like Greece and Turkey will want British tourism.

MadeOfStarStuff · 08/07/2021 19:01

YANBU

It’s not just the rates of infection it’s the fact that the government are basically saying fuck it and not even trying to contain it anymore. The only countries who let us in will be the ones that can’t survive economically without uk tourists

MarshaBradyo · 08/07/2021 19:04

What is the current status?

So far I thought double vaccinated were ok?

Not really looking into it

But then if you catch it abroad you won't be let back into the UK again!

Yes, it’s that uncertainty too, ending up having to quarantine in a hotel costing a fortune until you can come back. It’s really not worth the risk this year

I know people who have gone to France without issue

Urbanhymngirl · 08/07/2021 19:11

@coulditbecominghome I know people that paid £1000 for tests for 3 people to go to france. I think it’s been ok up to now but that’s before the current massive uncontrolled rise in cases

OP posts:
coulditbecominghome · 08/07/2021 19:13

The ones I know left earlier this wk & some family are going on the weekend. I know they didn't have to pay that much & all double vaxxed (no kids & older).

coulditbecominghome · 08/07/2021 19:14

They did exactly the same last yr

MarshaBradyo · 08/07/2021 19:14

Op what has changed that you know about due to cases?

I think it will be the same - double vaccinated and easier

minipie · 08/07/2021 19:15

Well it actually seems to be going the other way, at least wrt to vaccinated UK adults and accompanying under 12s.

France is now allowing these categories in and so is Germany as of a few days ago, even though a week or two ago Angela Merkel was saying EU countries should keep Brits out due to Delta.

Greece and Spain have been happy to welcome these categories for some time.

I agree our cases are going up - but so are theirs, even before an influx of UK visitors.

I think they have accepted that the horse has bolted re Delta so they may as well save their tourism industries.

underneaththeash · 08/07/2021 19:15

I agree...we're due to go to France on the 12 August (moved from last year).
I suspect they'll ban us before then and as they haven't got the same vaccine take up, I wouldn't blame them.
However, we have to do what we're doing - there is no other option.

Urbanhymngirl · 08/07/2021 19:18

@underneaththeash we are due to go too mid aug but starting to think it looks unlikely!

OP posts:
Urbanhymngirl · 08/07/2021 19:19

@minipie as France are telling their own nationals not to go to Spain & Portugal due to delta, it seems unlikely they will want tens of thousands of brits too

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 08/07/2021 19:26

Most countries seem to be separating out vaccinated

I wouldn’t worry yet

EileenGC · 08/07/2021 19:27

I would love to know how other countries are viewing us and how their own vaccination programmes are going.

Most countries want all their industries to reopen, and that includes tourism. Same as London won't be fully operational again until all the tourists come back. We want British tourists, everyone can see that vaccines are effective, even when taking Delta into account. We also want to be reciprocated, because it makes no sense that with local Covid rates being 50 times lower than in England, and people having vaccine certificates, we still won't be able to skip quarantine in the UK from the 19th onwards. Why? Because our (Pfizer and AZ, so licensed) vaccines were not given by the NHS. It makes no sense whatsoever.

I can only speak for the EU countries, but the vaccination programmes are now very close to the UK one. It's not February anymore, when we were ages behind.

They're fully ramping up the rollout during summer. Where I live (Germany) everyone over the age of 12 has been able to book their vaccine for 5 weeks now. Second doses are given within 6 weeks, so all secondary school children who want it, will be vaccinated before school returns in September. I am early 20s and will receive my second dose next week. My late 20s British friends have their second appointments in September. We currently have approx. 50% of the adult population fully jabbed, which is only about 15% behind the UK. Still doing 1 million doses a day, so numbers increasing fast.

My 17yo brother in Spain should get his in September. Spain is currently doing people in their 30s and university students who leave on an Erasmus soon, they want them fully jabbed before the end of August. Each country is a little different but they're not that behind anymore. They also had different priority groups - eg school, emergency services and supermarket staff were group 2/3 in Spain and Germany, just after the over 70s and clinically vulnerable. So that's a big chunk of the younger population already protected.

EileenGC · 08/07/2021 19:29
@minipie as France are telling their own nationals not to go to Spain & Portugal due to delta, it seems unlikely they will want tens of thousands of brits too
France is already full of Delta. That ship sailed long ago, they have an open border and the variant has already been in the country for weeks. Telling people to avoid going to Spain and Portugal won't minimise the danger much.
