To lie about covid symptoms to get a pcr?

DS was sent home from school yesterday, due to having sore eyes. He's at his dad's but his dad said he seemed fine and today he was fine when he got up and his eyes weren't sore.

His dad then said that he went to sleep this afternoon (which is very unusual) he's also not had any dinner as he told my ex he isn't hungry and he feels sick. Apparently, his LFT was negative.

Will we BU to lie about symptoms? His symptoms are very unusual but I'm pretty sure tiredness is on the list. He doesn't have any of the main symptoms though!

I think at this stage it’s sensible to test with any symptoms. The delta variant has very different symptoms to the ones listed. There is no shortage of tests so IMO very reasonable to have one.

namcybotwinbloom · 07/07/2021 20:30

If you go to a test centre and advise the school won't let him return till he's had a pcr they will give you one.

I've had to ask for one because the school advised they wouldn't let my daughter back without one for stomach ache.

Twice in two weeks

I am a TA in primary school. We are noticing a lot of eye issues, sticky, bloodshot and sore eyes. I'd get him tested.

Northernsoullover · 07/07/2021 20:32

Its fine.

GorgeousGoldies · 07/07/2021 20:33

My DS’s main symptom was sore eyes, I’d get him tested. Hope he’s ok.

I had a pcr test today, on the advice of the Zoe covid symptoms app.

You are asked, when you book your test why you are requesting one. Zoe advice is reason enough. Can you not ask your GPS advice?

covid symptoms are changing with the delta variant. Mine were an increase in my allergy symptoms (hayfever) more sneezing and a runny nose. I also felt out of breath, not unusual for me as I have copd.

WildWestWanda · 07/07/2021 20:53

My only symptom was feeling very tired

AntiSocialDistancer · 07/07/2021 21:00

We have PCRs available to book near us with no symptoms needed because cases are rising in our area.

I'd call 119 but be careful to avoid saying any of the main 3 symptoms. Last test I did a few weeks ago I had to isolate waiting 3 days for the result.

Sore eyes?? In the middle of hay-fever season?? I've heard it all now!
I would say unless his school are making a big fuss about getting him tested then don't put him through it.

Takingabreakagain · 07/07/2021 21:11

Not every illness is covid children still get other viruses, colds, hay fever etc.
Why do you need him to be tested? Especially if an LFT was negative.

DS doesn't suffer from hay fever and that's what he told the school yesterday so they sent him home. They also told my ex to keep an eye on him and if he still feels unwell in a few days, to get him tested.

We didn't think anything of it though but its very unusual for him to go to sleep during the day.

Honestly, no one cares, there's no shortage of tests. Where's the downside in knowing for sure one way or the other?

It's not April 2020, you aren't denying key workers the opportunity to have a test

ItsJustASimpleLine · 07/07/2021 21:44

Positive case at DD school only symptom was sore eyes. Get them tested.

coconutmonkey · 07/07/2021 22:46

At this stage, it would be utter madness to test for this. We will never get out of this hell if people keep testing for every mild little symptom which can be attributed to so many different things.

How does having tests slow down anything?
m0therofdragons · 07/07/2021 22:53

My Dh hasn’t ever had hay fever but suddenly at 41 he’s now got seasonal asthma/hay fever. Pollen is really high and affecting lots of concern too round here. Have you tried piraton? I can’t imagine asking for a pcr for this, I find that a strange response. That said, if you’re concerned then you can test, I just wouldn’t put a child through it unless I really felt it necessary (dc have all had at least one pcr each with one having had 2 so I’m not against them).

m0therofdragons · 07/07/2021 22:54

children not concern - to tired to proof read apparently.

Lemonmelonsun · 07/07/2021 22:56

The list of symptoms doesn't match what's actually going on so test!
Does more benefit than harm

Surely the more negative tests the better?
JackieWeaveristheboss · 07/07/2021 23:05

I agree, my daughter tested positive this week and she didn’t have any of the three main symptoms but was tested because she had been in contact with 8 positive cases and was unwell. Her symptoms were fatigue, cold like symptoms, sore throat, headache and a red bloodshot eye. The track and trace people said that children are presenting in a different way with the new variant and cold, red/ sore eyes was common.

Wheresmrpenguin · 07/07/2021 23:09

I saw a massive billboard the other day that said to get a PCR test even without the main symptoms so yeah you should be able to.

You’ll appreciate this song op

Clearly wrong topic… but it’s a good song Confused

Fucking hell is it August 2020 again? This kind of thinking was around then and look where it left us! Not testing doesn't get us out of lockdown faster it gets us out slower!
TheRosesOfSuccess · 07/07/2021 23:21

Sore eyes was one of my first and lingering symptoms. I don't understand the comment about never getting out of this madness - testing to confirm someone's virus status is part of the way we can return to a normal life.
