(Name change)
I have recently been struggling with my health. Only my boss in work knows this, as I've been candid about my reasons for being absent. I'm now back 100% to full duties but still a bit fragile and not dealing with anything high stress.
My boss asked me to catch up for lunch (not uncommon) and took me out. He gave me a very expensive, designer item that has huge sentimental meaning to me. (A family member used to gift me this brand before they died) and he knew I was going to buy it with some of a recent bonus I received because I had chatted to him about it.
He is a hugely generous guy, owns the company and always does the best by people. Gives unlimited sick leave during periods of extended sickness or family hardship. He always buys his EA personal gifts, they work closely and know each other really well. AIBU to
accept this and wear it with pride?

As long as you are confident that your boss doesn't have ulterior motives (i.e. hoping to get you into bed) then I see no reason why you shouldn't accept the gift

ohthatbloodycat · 07/07/2021 08:55

Gosh, is he single?! What a lovely, lovely man.

I personally wouldn't have chatted to him about this in the first place, as I'd worry that he'd do exactly this. He clearly has form for buying his employees gifts.
Not saying at all that you were hint dropping though!
I guess I'd just have kept this separate from work.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/07/2021 08:55

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t accept it, especially if he has form for such a gift. He just sounds thoughtful, caring and generous but maybe he earns a lot and likes to treat people because he can too.

ohthatbloodycat · 07/07/2021 08:56

Oh, and I think a nice bottle of whisky or tipple of choice is in order, to say thank you. It shouldn't be a one-way thing.

Allinprogress · 07/07/2021 08:56

I used to have a wealthy boss like this. Absolutely no ulterior motive, he was just showing his appreciation

MissMissTorrance · 07/07/2021 08:58

Accept.
Sounds like a great workplace.

Bumblenums1234 · 07/07/2021 09:00

Accept it! As long as you don't think he is trying to manipulate you into sleeping with him that is!

Some bosses are just genuine and nice people, sounds like he favours everyone the same. What a lovely man.

Merryoldgoat · 07/07/2021 09:03

That’s a really nice thing to do. I’d definitely accept it.

GaspGulpScream · 07/07/2021 09:05

Accept it with the sentiment it was given. What a kind, thoughtful and generous thing to do
I'm glad that you are on your way to better health @Hopingmadd

KarmaStar · 07/07/2021 09:44

What else are you going to do with it?
Count your blessings and thank him.

Hopingmadd · 07/07/2021 09:56

He owns the company, I just feel uncomfortable that's it's such a personal gift. And yes he is an amazing boss. For context he is married with kids.
