Extractor fan installed but not connected

Using AIBU for traffic.
Recently bought our first home, it’s 6 years old. Extractor fans rubbish or so we thought… had someone out to have a look and they’ve not been connected so we’re just dumping the air into insulation Hmm

It’s still under the new build warranty but has anyone successfully got a company to rectify issues from when the house was built?

You can see it was never installed as insulation hasn’t even been cut!

Thank you Grin

And apologies for such a mundane post Wine

I've worked for major contractors, just give them a ring and get should put you through to the team that deals with these issues. So yeah, they'll have a team for this sort of thing. Or should do, anyway.

*they, not get

The property will be well out of the new build defects period, the builder will just say it should have been picked up by the previous occupant.

Common enough due to new build pricing for contractors.
Short term - buy a length if flexible 100mm hose from screwfix, drop the screws out of the extractor, up in the loft drop a bit of the flexi hoseinto the extractor hose and then take it to the eaves (without any dips where water could condense) and attach the extractor spigot to the hose and screw to the ceiling. Or

You should have vent tiles in the roof that you can attach the hose to and vent through the roof but they come in all sorts of shapes and sizes (Though the spiggot - the bit you put the vent tube is always about the same size).

The street I'm in now has quite unusual vent tiles so a picture might not be much use but go outside, look at the roof and the neighbours especially above bathrooms ensuite etc- you should spot raised tiles/tiles with a mouth style opening etc - they will stand out once you know to look- then it's a 20 minute diy fix to attach hose to one end, cut to length and attach to the other. Use a cable tie or 2 to keep it tigth to the roof tile spiggot

If its the nhbc 10 Yr guarantee it basically covers major structural issues. If it was decent builder they might help you though.

OP, in our house they installed a stupidly expensive, almost £2k on some sites, extractor fan. It has a dozen halogen lights under it to shine down on the cooking surface.
They never connected it. Not to the electric or to vent out. It's just a huge, expensive looking, pointless steel thing on the wall that serves no purpose other than to look pretty and I'd argue it doesn't do that well.
Not even a new build, just old owners with more money than sense I suspect.
