My child has just graduated from Camborne School of Mines affiliated to the University of Exeter as a BEng in Mining Engineering. This is a mining and mineral engineering degree that operates via CSM through the University of Exeter at Tremough Campus Cornwall. It has a rich history. My child completed the BEng alongside roughly 30 other mining engineering undergrads of both sexes and of multiple races. My child is a working class child, who has succeeded through hard work, family support and the benefit of scholarship aimed at previously disadvantaged students that came to CSM.My child along with 3/4 of their peers have been offered a starting salary of £50,000 as newly qualified mining engineers from CSM via global mining and mineral companies, there is apparently a shortage of these engineers and CSM Exeter is the only school in the UK offering it and hooking these grad students into the industry.I would like to add the CSM BEng course has been paused this year due to low uptake. My child was the second to last cohort before this 'pause'.If you are Mums of any background with a young and aspiring engineer who wants to do something different and have the support of a College with Alumni all over the globe and that takes up huge diversity. As well as walking into one of the most highly paid post grad engineering fields that is currently struggling to find adequately educated fresh youngsters. Then get hold of Exeter University and ask them when the CSM BEng is going to be 'un-paused' for young engineers of all sexes, races and backgrounds in the UK and beyond.CSM offer scholarships for young female engineers and are the only UK mining and mineral engineering course in the UK to do so.How many of you have come across a standard £50,000 entry level salary for an engineering grad of ANY background or Uni in the UK?CSM has opened this door to two thirds of its post grads, many of whom are scholarship students. My child is one of them.I'm hoping there will be Mums here whose young engineers will be one of those grads in the future.
