Teachers of MN should I send this email to the headteacher (Good and not teacher bashing?)

DD is 7 just finishing year 2.

She has grown in confidence so much this year, has a fantastic relationship with her teacher and both of us will be sad when she has to leave the class at the end of this week to see her new teacher for Year 3 (they have 1 week next week in their new year group, Year 6 are going off to their new schools for the week, all co-ordinated in the local area so all schools in the area are doing the same).

I’m tempted to send an email to the headteacher basically praising the teacher and thanking her for the confidence boost and helping DD to finally love school and want to go every single day – before this year I used to have to bribe her to walk to school in the morning, now she’s out the door before I’m ready.

Progress wise she’s still behind but she’s grown in confidence, has made a lot of new friends and comes out smiling and very chatty every single day (although she still doesn’t tell me what they’re actually doing and just tells me about her friends)

WIBU to do email the HT? I don’t want the headteacher (whose generally lovely and very good) to roll her eyes and delete it.

Also happy to hear suggestions if I should send it to someone else in school rather than the HT.

Vote:
YABU - Don't send it
YANBU - Send it

Why would she do that?

Ok, HTs tend to get snowed under with thank-you emails but the 3 I've worked with always forwarded them to the teachers in question.

TrifleCat · 05/07/2021 16:53

I’m a school governor OP - do it and copy the chair of governors in, I promise you this will make the day of the head !

WorraLiberty · 05/07/2021 16:53

Snowed under in July I meant

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/07/2021 16:55

Please do it. It will mean more to the teacher than any gift.

Treehaus · 05/07/2021 16:56

Yessss do it.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/07/2021 16:56

I've done this before but also copied in Head of Governors and the teacher concerned.

I think it's a lovely thing to do.

Paddingtonthebear · 05/07/2021 16:57

Yes I would. I emailed the HT at our school during lockdown to pass on the thanks for all the work the teachers were doing, our teacher was marking home schooling work at 11pm at night on a regular basis

BluebellsGreenbells · 05/07/2021 16:57

I agree, send it! Teachers do a thankless task and any praise would be welcomed!

Bokky · 05/07/2021 16:58

Send it! I am a primary teacher and would love this if a parent sent this.

PrancerandDancer · 05/07/2021 16:58

Send it. It will make the teachers day/week!

Hairsprayinthesink · 05/07/2021 16:59

Overwhelmingly yes. Send it. It will be hugely valued!!

DoItForYear2 · 05/07/2021 17:01

Thank you everyone, don't have the individual teachers email but do have both the headteachers and chair of governors so will get emailing.

Trust me, ths best end of year present any parent can get me is an email to head saying I'm great.

Copy the class teaching in so they know!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 05/07/2021 17:09

Don’t even doubt this for a minute. Our head used to read the general school praise emails out in staff meetings because they are so nice to get. I would be tempted to copy in the teacher as well as I know parents have sent them about me before and no one ever told me.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 05/07/2021 17:46

100% l would send it.
I have emailed my daughter's HT for similar reasons. They will never roll their eyes at an email like that!

ScaredNotAnxious · 05/07/2021 17:50

We very regularly get these emails. I'm in a secondary school and, with us, they tend to get sent to the entire staff body with a little header from the HT outlining who the brilliant staff being referred to are. Everyone feels warm and fuzzy for a few minutes and then the praised staff get a couple of comments ranging from pride from SLT to friendly mocking from their mates. It wouldn't be eyerolled or deleted at all. It's really important for schools to know which teachers are doing well, which students are doing well and what things they're excelling at - it's focuses us better on our problem areas.

iamtopazmortmain · 05/07/2021 17:51

Please, please send it.

Whilst the mugs and bath bombs are lovely it is the personal word of thanks that make all the difference.

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 05/07/2021 17:53

Definitely send. This is better than any end of term gift. It's lovely to know you've made a difference

ShinyMe · 05/07/2021 17:53

I can't understand why someone wouldn't do this! It will make the teacher's week, and it will only be a positive.

Crowsandshivers · 05/07/2021 18:03

Please do! I've had this a few times and my head has always passed it on to me. Great evidence for appraisals etc.

Glitterblue · 05/07/2021 18:37

I did this at the end of year 3 when DD's teacher had worked miracles on her confidence and anxiety issues. Her teacher actually came to me at the end of year church service and told me how much it had meant to her to receive that.

Verbena87 · 05/07/2021 18:42

Please do it. It means a lot and will also mean school has real evidence that social and emotional stuff is valued by parents as well as academic achievement, as it can often feel a bit like league tables hold more power with parents than less measurable progress.

Wigeon · 05/07/2021 18:42

Obviously send it! There definitely won’t be any eye rolling.

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 05/07/2021 18:47

Why would you think the HT would eye-roll and delete? It's a lovely thing to do. Most Heads have been through the wringer this year; making calls on what's safe with not always great guidance from the politicians, worrying about loads of things from staffing to physically contracting the illness... I'll bet he or she would welcome having this kind of valediction from a parent, given the year has been such an upheaval.

Our HT will usually email these kinds of letters to all staff to remind us all why we're here! I'm a TA but everyone values them.

gingerbiscuits · 05/07/2021 19:35

Speaking as a Primary School Teacher, please send it!! It's been a hell of a year & teachers need all the pick me ups they can get! Our Head emails us all when we get any praise from parents & it's very much appreciated! 💗
