Damage caused by house re-wire

We had a burst water pipe causing untold damage mainly kitchen and lounge. The ceiling came down and water ruined no end.
Decided this was a good time to have house re-wired as it was very outdated.
The mess has been horrendous during the re-wire, we expected a lot of mess but boy not this much lol. I have cleaned as much as I could each day but loads of dust and rubble everywhere. That isn't what I'm on here for though. Channels made in every room adding extra sockets and lights, 2 channels made because he didn't remember it was a flat roof above one room, we have to pay to get the holes filled which werent even needed, a large square cut out of bedroom ceiling which has a flat roof also and a piece of the ceiling 2-3" wide cut out stretching from one bedroom and along the adjoining bedroom ceiling.
I walked into one bedroom today, no carpet put back down, and put my foot straight into hole as the floorboard just flipped up, no nails or screws securing it. I have bruised my ankle and knee but no lasting damage. Then I noticed 2 small holes in the bathroom wall, it has upvc cladding on the lower half of the wall and theyve managed to put holes into it.
We have a dado rail in the lounge and it has all come away from the walls where they chanelled down and put the wires going behind the dado, which has lifted the wall paint along with the dado. Looks a right mess.

We have arranged a plasterer to cover the chanelling but we werent informed about the large holes in the ceiling as it will now need a totally new ceiling by the looks of it.
Are we entitled to ask the electrician to pay for the damages? or should we accept the mistakes/damages?

One of my enterprises is an electrical contracting company. We dont operate in the domestic market but your contractor should have made you aware of likely damage.

Some will quote without making good, semi making good ie filling in channels ready for final plaster skim or less likely for completley making good so check your quote/estimate

They'll often have a friendly plastering team who they could pass you on to.

It's all but impossible to rewire in a flat roof ceiling without bring down parts of the ceiling.

As for dust from chasing- are they using extraxction when doing it. A giod quality chaser with a construction grade extractor attached captures the vast majority of dust, and in the scheme of things are not particularly expensive and should be equipment that electricians regularly rewiring domestic properties should have.

Holes in the bathroom wall? They need to sort that. Though I'd advise you to hold back some of the balance when the work is done in case you end up funding that yourself.

Shit happens but they do sound amateur hour to me though.

It doesn’t sound great but a rewire does cause a lot of mess and a lot of damage. We had one done a few years ago and swore never to do a live-in rewire ever again. Big channels down the walls go with the territory and yes, sometimes they cock up exactly where they are drilling or making holes. Sparks very rarely make good and they should make you aware of that. Usually ceilings are accessed from the room above but obviously if you have a flat roof they do need to make holes to see what’s going on and to feed new cables through. They shouldn’t be leaving the site in a dangerous state at the end of the working day if you are living in but obviously having to tidy everything every day has cost implications. Depends on what you booked really.

Our spark told us that he’d got out of consumer rewires because they caused so many complaints about mess and destruction but I was happy with mine as I understood beforehand what was going to happen and how much making good would take place.
