AIBU to think my hair should not be like this after professional colouring?

I am not 100% if i am being unreasonable and considering the salon is closed on Monday; l'm asking here until i can call them.

Brunette to brunette dye job, mostly to fix my roots, nothing fancy and no bleach etc.

I had an all over colour tint done on Thursday afternoon, (last at home DIY dye done April 21, decided to treat myself to a proper colour & cut ahead of a big birthday next week.) Did a consultation 1 week before appointment where she saw my root situation.

My hair was a couple of diff shades around the roots due to the diy jobs, but she assured me with a £30 "cleanse" treatment would take away most discoloration so an all over tint would then give an all over colour and give back from richness and depth.

i think it was 6.73 she applied if anyone knows that shade.

I was happy with the shade in the salon, top roots looked lovely and she did a bouncy blowdry for me.

I managed to get 3 days from the blowdry, so have only just washed and styled again today myself.

I am really disappointed that i still have clearly lighter shade roots (hot roots youtube tells me) on the sections under the top roots, about 2inches worth. If i do a half up/down style its really obvious.

My question is should a colourist have been able to resolve this for me and WIBU to ask for it to be fixed at their cost?

I can't seem to add pics right now :(

Thanks

I can’t answer but bumping for the morning crowd for you.

Yes, go back.

Golden2021 · 05/07/2021 07:54

Definitely go back. You don't want 2 inches of roots when you've just had your hair done. Not sure what a tiny is though? Is that a wash out thing? I always had a permanent colour.

Sounds like the developer she used maybe lifted as well as deposit colour in this situation I would have used just 3% 10 vol so it just deposited without and lift it’s a common mistake because 6% 20 vol is normal to use with a root colour I find that with a level 6 brunette best to use 3% 10vol to avoid hot roots specially if the rest of the hair is dark !! Go back and say u want it fixing x

If you asked for an all over colour then that includes all roots. Definitely ring when they’re next open and ask to go in for them to have a look with obv a view to touching up the tint.

Go back. All over colour does include roots but I’d expect the colourist to adjust their application or the shades used to avoid hot roots (which usually means that colour at the root is warmer than the colour on the mid lengths and ends) and give and an even result. Virgin hair (uncoloured, unprocessed), like roots, takes colour very differently to previously coloured hair and so needs to be treated differently. You can’t just whack the colour straight through or you’ll end up with an uneven result. That’s why the root touch up and full head instructions in boxed colours are different.

*I am not a hairdresser, I’ve just had lots of colour done.

Yeah you shouldn’t be able to see the root section at all or differentiate it from the rest of your hair. After one wash that’s not good. Just wondering what sort of thing she did maybe only a semi permitted colour?? Go back and get it fixed. Hairdressers don’t like giving money back they will always try and fix if you are not rude or anything x

strawberrydonuts · 05/07/2021 09:01

Yes, hairdressers should deliver on what was agreed at the consultation, which presumably in this instance was an all over colour.

If there was a chance it wouldn't turn out right because of previous dye jobs they should have informed you before doing it what the result would be so you could decide whether to go ahead.

If they promised all over colour and it hasn't turned out that way, then they should put it right for free or refund you.

Atalune · 05/07/2021 09:56

Did she just do the top of your head and not section off and do all the roots all over?

That’s bad. Either way. Go back and ask for a fix.
