Doing a clear out of the chest of drawers in the office. One drawer full of stuff and my heart sinks when I think about sorting and wading through it all. WIBU to chuck it all in the bin (recycle bin where possible)?

Old keys from homes long gone
Key rings
Currency from around the world (small change)
About 20 old usb memory sticks
Badges from festivals / protest March and gigs
A small heart photo frame - unwanted gift
Medal from work away day
Rape alarm from when I used to go 'out' out on my own
Ink cartridges for a Parker fountain pen I no longer have
A couple of CD rom with unidentified photos on

Is it all your stuff? If you don’t need/want it yeah I’d bin/recycle and shred any paperwork.

Just bin them, or recycle/charity shop. You will feel a lot better for it!

Maybe take the random foreign coins to the bank. I think they take them as charitable donations.

Clarkey86 · 04/07/2021 17:37

I don’t know why you wouldn’t throw it away.

Wipe the memory sticks first though!

Yes, just chuck it. Life's too short.
I sorted out some stuff today, luckily most of it can go to charity as it's usable toys, blankets, cushions. I feel guilty for not trying to sell it, but I don't have time to list little bits and pieces for £2 odd.

I'd check the usbs and the CDs before chucking.

a lot of that can be recycled (metal items, cartridges, electrical goods...)

I am baffled by medals handed out at casual race events. Instant clutter.

Getabloominmoveon · 04/07/2021 17:43

Yes, chuck it all away except for the coins, which various charities will take. Don’t waste your time trying to find homes for stuff.
I always think that one day someone will have to get rid of all that old memorabilia in my drawers and boxes. Best if it’s me.

The photo frame could go to a charity shop
Some charities will take unwanted foreign currency
The badges and keyrings might be collectable - see if any of them are worth anything on eBay
Keys can be recycled with mixed metals at the tip
USB sticks - if still usable, wipe them and give them away via free cycle or similar
Work medal thing - if it's old, your company's archives might be interested, otherwise recycle with the keys

bakingbernie · 04/07/2021 17:45

How many old keys?

TheGenealogist · 04/07/2021 17:48

Charity shops will most definitely take loose change. High street travel agents usually have a charity bin for excess currency, as do high street banks.

Or send it to Alzheimer's UK

Please don't tip things like CD Roms or random badges on your local charity shop, you're just passing on the job of sorting and binning.

This makes me think of the Michael McIntyre ‘Man Drawer’ sketch!
You never know when those bits might come in useful....

Why would you not Chuck it all?
