AA taking 3 days to tow my car home.

The AA collected my car at 10:30am Friday morning, to start a long recovery journey home. The journey is around 200 miles.
As I had 2 dogs, and an autistic child with me, I sent the car off by itself, and borrowed a family members car to get ourselves home. I didn't think my ASD dd would cope with a long journey with the AA, changing vehicles 2, maybe 3 times en route.

I found out today my car has been at a compound since 7pm Friday evening, waiting for the AA to pick it up.
In my car, are our luggage, my work stuff (was supposed to work this morning) and some medication I need to be taking. I had no idea it was going to take this long. I honestly expected it to be delivered home late on Friday sometime, otherwise I wouldn't have left our stuff in it.
AIBU to think this is bad service from the AA?

Jeez that sounds awful!
I am never tempted by the AA as they seem to cost double the other competitors do, but it seems I'm not missing out on anything!

@VeniVidiWeeWee

You haven't mentioned a disability so why can't you change a wheel?
The whole point of having RAC membership is that they change tyres surely? I got a flat recently and the bloke came out and changed it in under an hour.

I could change a tyre but most wheel nuts are machine tightened and are a fucker to get off. Much easier for someone with the professional tools to do the job when you're paying for it regardless.

FYI - the AA guy that delivered my car told me not to attempt to change the tyre myself, as it was on a gravel driveway and is a v heavy car.
He couldn't do it himself, as he was only a driver.

The car I borrowed would not have fitted everyone / thing in. I had to choose between stuff and people/dogs.

But, I honestly expected to have my car back the same night, so I didn't think it was going to be a problem. People and animals with me, stuff with the AA.

Been there. Done that. Which is why I'm now with the RAC.

Anyone with Green Flag?

RAC are shite, they left DH overnight in a pitch black lay-by after he blew a tyre. A fun 12 hours.

@wheresmymillionaire sorry to hear about your rubbish experience. Glad you got the car back relatively intact eventually - I wouldn't be changing that tyre either.

I've been with Green Flag for several years and think they are excellent, I've been recovered twice (2 different cars) both times on a low loader, as they don't tend to tow. The drivers have been super helpful and nice, and the call centre staff are v pleasant too. I've never had to wait too long either.

I'[m sure they have their delays and faults too BUT I hear far fewer nightmare stories about them than AA/RAC.

Grenlei Thanks. That's good to know. I'll have a look at their options.
AA have responded to the "alleged damage" to my car and will investigate. Hmm.
