To be angry with Sky - DS9 viewed porn

NC for this. Checked DS 9 browsing history, as I do every so often and there are a few searches that concerned me.

I could see in the search title - site blocked - for some of them. Sex cam was the search name. But one of them didn't have site blocked, so I searched it on my phone so that it doesn't show in DS's history again. It's called meatswing.com and clearing shows as the first main image and man having anal sex with another man and swinging his dick, helicopter style. When you scroll down the page there are various other explicit gifs of women and men.

I have Sky broadband with the filters on to block explicit content and have checked the settings again. It confirms the filter is on and adult content sites are blocked. The sex cams sites were obviously blocked when searched but this one wasn't.

Obviously we will be having a very sensitive and age appropriate chat with DS tomorrow about what he's seen. AIBU to be angry with Sky that this site has somehow slipped through their filter? There doesn't even seem to be a way for me to report it as porn and get it included in to their filter so other kids can't see it. I've manually blocked it now but just feel so very sad for my boy and what he's been exposed to at such a young age.

Sky isn’t the issue it’s how at 9 he knew what to search up . He has heard it somewhere that’s incredibly worrying

FatJan · 04/07/2021 01:00

@GreyhoundG1rl

Your 9 year old is searching for sex cams. That's the issue, not whether Sky filters should have prevented him viewing whatever the search threw up Hmm
What is wrong with everyone on this this thread.

It's his VIEWING history. Not his SEARCH history. There's a difference. He's been sent a link and has clicked it (and then VERY UNDERSTANDABLY clicked some more links from there because kids are programmed to learn and be curious).

I remember meatspin (and the rest) from my day. Kids sent sent them to each other, often with a disguised link so you'd click on www.Harrypotter.com and you'd be confronted with a woman firing eels out of her vagina.

Yes, Sky should have kicked in.

"What is wrong with everyone on this this thread."

Maybe it's because in your OP you said he had been searching for such content.

Boomisshiss · 04/07/2021 01:03

Maybe the op shouldn’t have said

“ so often and there are a few searches that concerned me. ” in her OP if it wasn’t searches . Sounds like that’s something she came up with after people questioned why he knew what to search up.

MoppaSprings · 04/07/2021 01:08

People are assuming he searched for sex cam because the OP put this

^“every so often and there are a few searches that concerned me.

I could see in the search title - site blocked - for some of them. Sex cam was the search name”^

No, I realised I need to be specific. I look at his search history by looking at what is in the drop down box of the search bar and the viewing history is on the left side in safari. This was the view history. Not search history. Not me covering up or changing my story.

And thank you PP for explaining this better than I have.

Op sky should have caught this in their filter, report the error to them.

You know now that their system isn’t infallible. Have a talk with your son about his searches and about opening random links. If he opens a link and something appears that he knows isn’t appropriate or that bothers him then he needs to let you know. For al he knows these links could be infecting your network with malware.

sadmum9 · 04/07/2021 01:18

Here it is from the side bar. For anyone who wants proof it's the view history. You can then see above he's clicked on images from it.

I've also noticed the actual website name it is hosted on is knowyourmeme.com so that explains why the manual block on meatspin.com didn't work. Ffs.

If you have allowed your 9yr old unsupervised internet access, this is firmly on you.

NiceGerbil · 04/07/2021 01:23

OP!

This is really interesting.

I had the same and I left sky over it.

The protection settings all said on.

Something (can't remember what) made me check. And I realised there were NO restrictions at all.

I could get to all the mainstream famous obvious porn sites no problem.

I had to make loads of calls to try and sort it.

The first lot couldn't fix it. And did not understand AT ALL why I was very concerned. Why it was a really big deal that this happened, why I was worried if it was widespread.

In the end I had a call with s very nice man in Egypt who managed to sort it out and understood easily why

This was a problem and
My concern that it wasn't just me

The call meant multiple times of me checking if it had worked...

Nope. Still seeing a woman being fucked up the arse on homepage..
Yep she's still there
Yep still there

Etc etc.

Fortunately I'm the sort of person who isn't upset or whatever by that- even though I hate porn.

Anyway. OP if it's not been fixed check the famous porn sites.

I was so angry.

Content control ON
zero being blocked

Does every 9 year old only access the internet when they are sat next to a parent on the sofa who gives them undivided attention and watches the screen every second?

Er… yes?

FatJan · 04/07/2021 01:30

By far the most likely outcome here is that the child has seen or heard something in school (e.g. a friend with an older brother or one with fewer parental controls) or stumbled across something by accident (e.g. by clicking a link) and wanted to find out more.

The tendency to jump to 'THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG HERE. A CHILD IS BEING ABUSED SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE AND THAT'S HOW THEY KNOW ABOUT INTERNET PORN FOR THEM TO SEND THE LINK TO YOUR SON' is a bit of a leap to say the least. I sometimes wonder if some posters have either forgotten what it was like to be at school or were at school before the internet took off and are just completely unaware how much inappropriate stuff gets passed about.

All a parent can do is set controls where they can and do everything they can to make sure the child is comfortable talking to them and asking questions. If the child gets in trouble or is made to feel like they did a bad or shameful thing, that's the last time they'll share anything with you.

FatJan · 04/07/2021 01:32

But yes, internet only in a family room with someone checking in frequently is a good idea for the next few years at least...

Worriedsoontohopefully · 04/07/2021 01:32

Fortunatley my husband deals with all that sort of stuff! You can create your own lists apparently - He told me once that expecting parental controls to catch everything is wildly unrealistic!

You should absolutely take responsibility for your own network! As for the DS..... he probably got told to check it out.... that's not quite..... porn Blush

NiceGerbil · 04/07/2021 01:33

'All a parent can do is set controls where they can and do everything they can '

I'm really concerned about sky content controls tbh.

If they're useless when they say they're on that's a massive problem surely.
