I’m a size 20/22, I’m 5’7 and I weigh 16 stone. I’m 32 years old. I have tried so many diets over the years, I do walk as much as I’m able, but due to the weight I’m carrying, I find myself out of breath all the time and in a lot of pain, particularly in my knees.
I was so slim as a child and a teenager, and also in my early twenties. But then I started taking the contraceptive pill and after that the weight around my tummy just piled on and I couldn’t get rid of it, then it got worse again after having my son two years ago.
My mental health is the worst it’s ever been and my confidence levels are near to 0. I hate myself and think of suicide often.
Would the NHS consider me?

Exactly, @BarbarianMum, I think you’ve missed my point…

Could you try yoga? It probably won’t make you lose much weight but It’s gentle exercise so your heart rate won’t go up too much and it also reduces anxiety. And although it’s gentle it’s still exercise so you will be burning calories, becoming more toned and flexible too.

I'm 5'4 and 12 stone but look average but I drink to much and eat shit and don't move enough. Have suffered severe trauma to but surgery isn't the answer.

Walk more, do weights, pilates and write down exactly what you eat.

Yoga! Lol.

Yanbu to ask op but you're unlikely to get it done. 16 stone was the weight the first surgeon I saw said I could get to after I had the sleeve... Yes you are fat but it's not too late to save yourself. As a pp mentioned read the why we eat too much book and make HUGE but sustainable changes to your diet. It might take years for all of the weight to come off but it could then be maintained.

Like a pp I got finance and got it done - £10k. I've been 22 stone though. Best thing I ever did but I'd been on diets for decades. You can crack this now. Good luck

(exercise wont make much difference. It's diet)

Your BMI is 35. To qualify you need to have BMI >40 or >35 with obesity relative co-morbidities.

mn2022 · 03/07/2021 22:33

Hopefully you don't qualify.

Can you walk a bit and build up and swimming is great too. For me SlimmingWorld worked. I’m 5 ft 8 and was 15 and a half stone 18/20. Took 6 months to go from obese to healthy bmi and 8 months to lose 5 stone to a size 10/12. I do it as a healthy eating lifestyle not a quick fix. For me weekly group support helped plus my Instagram. It’s changed my life.
