To report DH's employer to the police (covid breach)

Name changed as might be outing.

DH works for a QUANGO type thing. He's just called me to say that someone at work had a positive PCR test. They'd done it by post and got the results after turning up to work last week in a car with 2 other staff.

Let's say they work in a remote location and work/live/eat together for a couple of weeks at a time. They attempt social distancing, particularly by departments staying together, but they only have limited work/accommodation space. The positive person was one of the chefs though, so in contact with everyone's food.

Only the person with the positive test has been sent home, not the two in the car with them, and nothing is being done except for a bit of extra mask wearing.

We are due to go on holiday when DH returns. He called to make sure I'd got travel insurance against Covid issues (I had), but I've been very careful to follow rules and minimise contacts. I've only just had dose 2 and my DC aren't vaccinated, and I want him to have a negative test (proper one) before he comes home.

Mostly I want his company to take this seriously, as IMO they have not been at all, and have had several issues over the last year.

AIBU to fill out the Covid breach form?

Will this get traced back to your DP? Even if it didn’t, it’s already too late for your holiday. The police aren’t going to hare round, sirens blaring and make sure everyone is compliant. They probably get hundreds of those reports each day.

Surely he can just speak to the two people who were in the car and tell them they need to isolate?

I wouldn't mess with your husbands work.

DP is fairly relaxed about me reporting it. He's already tried dealing with the previous covid fuckwittery through his union and HR last year.

I know it might come to nothing, in which case there's no harm in filling out the form. If it did get back that it was his wife who reported it he can shrug and say it wasn't a secret as such and I can do what I like with information.

He was close to resigning last month over something unrelated to this.

Personally I wouldn't get involved.

So when was the test taken? Surely the positive case should've been isolating while waiting for the results anyway? If DP was in contact with the person themselves I'd get a PCR test and isolate while waiting for the results.

I'm currently isolating after a test and trace alert on my phone. I've been very careful and not gone out anywhere yet (getting takeaways instead) as I've only just had my first vaccination so my positive case has to be a colleague or customer at work. I wouldn't dream of ignoring the isolation and have taken a LFT while at home and will take another before I go back in 5 days or if I develop symptoms.

I'm not sure about reporting yet as I'm not entirely clear about your situation. When did they test and did they isolate while waiting for results? When were the 3 people in the car together before the test? We're they at work 24/48 hours before the positive test? I'd take control of the situation in any way I could which would be getting a test and isolating if I was in direct contact with them less than 48 hours before they tested.

Someone I know had a Covid breach reported where he works it was during lockdown . No social distancing or wfh . The police and council turned up and sent people home and I think they issue a fine . Apparently the person reported was someone who had recently got fired . How they knew that I don’t know I may just be speculation.
I personally think people should report but be careful it may backfire if they know it’s you .

IrritatedCat · 03/07/2021 14:32

The original person (idiot A) did the test as they were near someone who was ill (no necessarily with covid, but AFAIK that person didn't take a test. It's further away than the info I have). Idiot A sent their test off by post and then went off to work last week (breaking rules I know), sharing a car to the workplace.

Their positive test was reported after being at work for 2 days. They have been sent home but not the others who shared the car and workspace, who aren't even in their rooms isolating at the moment.

It's hard to explain without saying exactly what they do, but it's a small unit, non military and not under any security-level stuff. They have a rarely used critical role and some jobs have to be manned, just in case.
