people who light bonfires during the day are selfish?
Some fools within my neighbourhood are having a bonfire and it stinks.
They are obviously trying to burn something damp as it rained overnight so now nobody else can enjoy their garden on a dry Saturday morning.
0 out of 10 for intelligence there.

Not really.. if things need to be burned they need to be burned. Do you expect them to do it in the middle of the night?

@LindaEllen

if things need to be burned they need to be burned.

WTF ??

Things don't ''need to be burned''.

There are tips and waste sites for anything !

Burning garden waste etc is just adding to bloody global warming and increasing the incidence of asthma etc !

To say nothing of the risk of fires spreading, depending on where the fire is, obviously. The dry hot weather makes any fires a risk !

@mallowmallow

YANBU, at all !

It's selfish and irresponsible behavior from stupid people !!

Yeah I find it really irritating. Especially if you’re sitting in the garden/have the windows open on a nice day and you’re just getting wafts of smoke. One of my neighbors seems to start doing it the second I put my washing out…

Most people burn bonfires in the evening.

legally, you can do this any time of day or night. It is recommended to plan your burning of rubbish in a way that it finishes burning at dusk. Early morning and early evening are also a good time for burning waste. Since these are the times when your neighbours are less likely to be affected.

Even after choosing a courteous time, you should pay attention to whether the fire can cause a nuisance.

It depends how often they're doing it. Once in a while wouldn't bother me at all.

Nothing needs to be burned. If people have shit they don't want in their gardens they need to take it to their local recycling centre to dispose of in the proper way.

Bad for the environment, bad for neighbourly relations. Bonfire smoke is acrid I hate it and I don't think they should be allowed in a domestic context.

cariadlet · 03/07/2021 11:49

It would be annoying if it happened frequently because you can't put washing out when neighbours are having a bonfire but having one occasionally is fine. I love the smell of a bonfire.

ShirleyPhallus · 03/07/2021 11:51

I quite like the smell tbh. And once in a while really doesn’t bother me.

I thought Dusk to dawn was the law, might be worth checking??
