Parking on my driveway?

sierraveronica · 02/07/2021 20:36

I don’t currently live at my property - bought 3 months ago and was doing renovations.

Drove there last week and someone was parked on my driveway. Turns out to by my next door neighbour (they have no drive) as she likes parking there because my drive has no tree hanging over it so it’s less likely for a bird to poo on her car (the street is lined with trees).

Drove there today and a new person had decided to park there. No idea who.

Am I being unreasonable that I should be neighbourly and let people park there because the house is vacant? Because I’m getting pretty pissed off now. A driveway was high up on my needs list when buying the house as I couldn’t be bothered with the stress of finding a space every day, and now this seems worse.

Park your car across the end of your drive blocking them in. Then bugger off for a couple of days.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 02/07/2021 22:00

Put bin and recycling bins or other things in the middle of drive, that will deter them.

This, as well as talking to the neighbour you know has done it, is an excellent idea. It is def cf behaviour to park on someone else's drive, but would be taking cheeky fuckery to a new level to remove their bins in order to do it. Bin placement is your quickest and cheapest option as a first step.

Think I'd get a bollard and erect it when I'm not there. You don't want oil leaks on your drive. I'd nip it in the bud now.

Obbydoo · 02/07/2021 22:02

I ask my neighbours to park outside my house if I'm away for security reasons. I definitely wouldnt discourage it!

BlankTimes · 02/07/2021 22:04

You need something like this OP

Cookies47 · 02/07/2021 22:11

I can't understand everyone saying that it's fine and they'll just stop when you move in? It is definitely not okay and you're setting a precedent that if your drive is empty, they can park there! Tell them they cannot use your drive Confused

EL8888 · 02/07/2021 22:12

@Hankunamatata yep l was waiting for the penguin bollard! Cheaper than gates l assume?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 02/07/2021 22:14

Am I the only one wondering if the NDN is thinking that the second parker is the CF - for taking their stolen temporary parking space....?!

beigebrownblue · 02/07/2021 22:16

I would put up a large sign along the following lines:

THIS IS MY SECOND HOME. I DONT LIVE HERE I LIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE.

HOWEVER I SPENT MY EVENINGS WORRYING ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE USING MY PARKING SPACE

(OF A HOME I DON'T LIVE IN)

Good luck with the neighbours if you are in Wales. or Cornwall

MaggieFS · 02/07/2021 22:16

I would guess car two saw car one being a repeated CF and thought they might as well use the space if it's a free for all.

If you don't want them using it during the renovation work, stick a note on their window saying you're looking forward to meeting your new neighbours soon, but in the mean time, please could they refrain from using your drive as you do need access.

Or maybe the OP is renting or staying with friends or family while the only house she owns is renovated?
EL8888 · 02/07/2021 22:23

@beigebrownblue you haven’t read it properly. Renovations are being done before she moves in. She may well live in Wales or Cornwall. I’m sure she’s allowed to live in either place Confused

Definitely only have one house.Confused

I currently live with a family member.

Easier as I didn’t want to lose my buyers as my sellers were delayed. Then stayed as nicer than living with no kitchen or bathroom.

Get one of those parking posts up or a gate ASAP

FortniteBoysMum · 02/07/2021 22:33

Leave a note on their car requesting they do not use your drive. Note their number plate and if it happens again report to police for trespassing, clamp them or have them towed. Alternatively put something on your drive in front of them blocking them in. Then don't use it

DixonD · 02/07/2021 22:33

I think you need to stop the parking now or it will carry on when you are living there, on occasions when the driveway is vacant. You don’t want this issue hanging over you when you move in.

You need to block anyone else parking with a bollard or similar.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/07/2021 22:36

If you'll need the parking for deliveries/builders/visiting the property to do work on it..

Turn up and put a bollard on there. If someone elses car is parked there at the time... tough shit. Put a note on it telling them how to call you.. if you've gone home then they'll have to wait until it is convenient for you to return.

If you really won't need the parking I might leave it until you do... but you do risk some seriously CF'ers who might STILL try to park there once you move in!

HUCKMUCK · 02/07/2021 22:37

Did anyone mention Penguin bollards yet?!

BakedTattie · 02/07/2021 22:38

Hell no! It’s your drive!

BakedTattie · 02/07/2021 22:39

Defo get the penguin bollards in.

Or better still, military style ones. 👌🏻

moomin11 · 02/07/2021 22:42

This happened at our house, had been vacant for 6 months but unfortunately the neighbour kept parking there even after we moved in.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 02/07/2021 22:49

This is what you need, OP - it's a step or two up from the penguin bollards and will scare the living crap out of them communicate your wishes effectively.

Parking on my driveway?
BackforGood · 02/07/2021 22:49

If they were on the drive when I needed to take things into the house, I'd just block them in and might not be able to find my keys for a bit if they wanted to get off the drive .

MajesticWhine · 02/07/2021 22:58

It's a bit cheeky but not a big deal if the property has been empty. Just let them know you're moving in now, so could they kindly stop.

How when they don’t know who they are?
