Can anybody recommend an affordable quiet fan to cool a room down. Friend is having to prepare a largish room for someone who needs to be keep cool in heatwave temperatures. Thank you in anticipation of tried and tested models that don't break the bank.

Unfortunately a fan won't decrease the temperature of the room. It'll stop the person feeling too hot/overheating but it'll have to be on them constantly.

Air conditioning units can be bought with hoses that go out the window, I believe they're quite good.

The best thing, if possible, is to stop the room getting too hot in the first place. So, keep the blinds closed during the day to keep the sun out etc.

Large 2/5l bottles of frozen water, either on its own or in front of a fan.

Are they mobile? One of the best way to cool down, especially before going to sleep, is to have a cold shower and let yourself dry naturally. Drops your body temperature

Keep the window & curtains/blinds closed all day.

StoneofDestiny · 02/07/2021 17:47

Yes, they are mobile, but the house and all the rooms are exceptionally hot.

Keep windows and curtains shut during the day. This will stop the room warming up in the first place. A fan will not necessarily cool the room, it will just circulate the existing air!

I got an oscillating fan from Tesco last year for £19.99 that's been brilliant. It has 3 speeds and adjustable height/head.

I've seen fans that cost £££ and they don't really do anything different from a cheapie.

Unless you have the money to afford an air-conditioning unit (and associated electricity costs) I would just go for a basic oscillating fan on a stand.

Open windows when it's cooler outside than in

We've just had to spend over £400 on an air conditioning unit for DD's room as it was getting dangerously hot and nothing else was working.

It works a treat but was expensive

Meaco 1056 Air Circulator Fan. Very, very quiet and powerful. We have 3 ) the dog pinched the 1st one as he didn't like our noisy old fan!
