To think £22 for a dry hair cut is expensive.
It was 15 previously and found today its gone to 22.
Or am I out of touch

This is just a trim off ends no layers or fancy work involved.

It seems very cheap to me tbh!

roses2 · 02/07/2021 15:14

Mine increased from £10 to £15 for a dry trim Blush

At these prices I am guessing they probably weren't able to claim furlough and are trying to recoup their losses after being shut so long.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 02/07/2021 15:15

Doesn’t sound ridiculous to me tbh but compared to Barbers prices I’m always amazed that women’s hairdressers charge so much.

I used to have mine washed cut and dried for £35 which I thought was pretty cheap, so £10 less without the wash sounds ok.

I’m currently caught up with paying £50 a go to have my roots done Shock. I’m used to buying a box dye for £5 so this has been somewhat of a shock to the system. It takes 3+ hours so I totally get why it costs that much, but it’s still a huge expense for me especially as I never go out for anyone to actually see it!

yikesanotherbooboo · 02/07/2021 15:23

When I am thinking about trades and prices I consider;
Time taken for the task ie hourly rate which may be longer due to COVID arrangements
Their professional level ie training
Their overheads ie rent of the shop front, receptionist, electricity , travel if mobile etc
Currently covid over heads eg ppe
Any other costs eg shampoo,
I think £22 sounds very little for any kind of service particularly when carried out by a skilled professional.

Arsebucket · 02/07/2021 15:27

I pay £8.50.

But it’s just spritz hair with water and cut to one length.

I’d love to be able to afford even a wash and blow dry to be honest!

Kanaloa · 02/07/2021 15:28

I don’t think it’s expensive, or at least it fits the market where I live.

ilovesooty · 02/07/2021 15:29

Don't pay it if you think it's too expensive then.

Eleoura · 02/07/2021 15:30

Very cheap! Where are you based?

I go to a hairdressing school and pay £10 for a wash, cut and blow dry.

PenCreed · 02/07/2021 15:31

I haven't paid that little for a haircut since the 90s. My own fault for living in London I suppose! My last haircut was £70 (which was too much, not going back there).

Clappingforjoy · 02/07/2021 17:24

I'm in the midlands

Hair sprayed and cut (I have very short hair)

Pay my hairdresser £20, she only wanted £17, she didn't get furlough pay last time as she was a new business. She has 3 kids to bring up so I am extremely happy to overpay.

Owner of 2 sons here.

Men usually need to go more often (mine go every 4-6 weeks) and they don't wash hair so the appointment takes 15 minutes.

My sons go to a barber who doesn't charge for ppe. The womens hairdresser next door requires customers to purchase their ppe (gown and mask) for £4

Badoukas · 02/07/2021 18:08

Haven't been to a salon in 15 years since I discovered a great home hairdresser. So much cheaper and she's become a family friend.

MilduraS · 02/07/2021 18:12

My hairdresser charges £29 for a cut or £41 for a cut and blow dry. I have fine thinning hair and all I want is her to cut it to one length in a straight line. I still go and pay for the cut and blow dry because she's so amazing at colour.

emilyfrost · 02/07/2021 18:13

You are free to go elsewhere if you don’t like their prices.

SpringSparrow · 02/07/2021 18:19

Mine used to be £44 for a cut and blow dry and has gone up to £66 😳. To be honest I think the business owner has lost my business with this price rise. She’s got too many employees doing unnecessary things, like one who decided he didn’t like cutting hair so he now manages the business and another who just does marketing. It’s a shame because I really like the woman who cuts my hair but I’m pretty sure I can get my haircut for £44 at a another salon in my town.

We had a mobile hairdresser where we used to live, she too became a very good friend! It was great to have the whole family done at the same time, and she gave a massive discount as she was doing four cuts without having to travel in between.

I’ve not managed to find one where I am now who doesn’t cost the absolute earth. I was quoted £60 for trim by one I called!

Frazzled2207 · 02/07/2021 18:22

I pay £38, north west.
But she spends more time blow drying it than cutting.
Not sure they do dry cuts.

Manzanilla55 · 02/07/2021 18:23

I too am in the midlands and for wash cut blow dry I pay £24. It is v v near my home and price is ace.

Pollaidh · 02/07/2021 18:24

The children's rate in my southern town is £15 for a boy at the barber, or about £22 for a child.

I pay £60-£75 for a haircut at my salon.

AlbaAlba · 02/07/2021 18:26

Try local college if they do hairdressing courses - will be cheap there, but honestly the price you mention is college trainee price not a salon price. Will be term time only btw.

cadburyegg · 02/07/2021 20:07

I pay £50 now for a wash cut and blow dry. South east. It’s a lot and I could get it cheaper but he’s very good. And it used to be £42 pre covid but they’ve obviously had to increase their prices. They’ve been closed more than open over the last 18 months or so

Chasingsquirrels · 02/07/2021 20:13

I pay £17 for a dry cut, she usually straightens it a bit and puts a few very light layers in.
Cambridgeshire/Suffolk Borders.
Home salon - I used to go to her in a village salon and after 15-ish years there she converted her garage into a small 2 chair salon, but I've never been when someone else is there as well.

Changednameforthis2021 · 02/07/2021 20:24

I had my first dry cut a few days ago. £7!! I gave her £10
