to think its impossible to plan overseas holidays at the moment

Just cancelled a holiday for the end of July to Spain despite everyone saying its going to go green in the next few weeks. It feels impossible to plan anything when every day there is conflicting messaging about quarantine etc.

Is anyone else still hoping to go? I feel so gutted and have held off until the last minute really.

Booked Lanzarote - 26th Dec for a week from Ireland - feeling quietly confident 🤞

Planty13 · 02/07/2021 11:34

Not sure why people are bothering to be honest. Everyone I know booking holidays is stressed to bits by what colour their countries are, cancellations and rebookings, potential isolation in the run up to their holiday, the list goes on

Honey12346 · 02/07/2021 11:43

It depends on whether you can isolate on return and afford tests. I am lucky that I can do both so I am on holiday right now.

There is also another option (I did this last year) book time off work but not flights. A few days before your holiday starts, check which countries are on the green list and book a flight there. When you book a few days before the possibility of it getting cancelled is very small. I booked my flight the day before last year! Good luck!

What makes you all think that those of us who live in European countries with low numbers want you Brits and your messy delta variant in our countries? Stay at home and sort out your mess and stop this exceptionalism! We don't want you coming here - so stay away!
Thanks

Double jabbed. Booked to Amber Country.
Bookwd test package with tui £50 each.
Done plf forms, downloaded and printed all qr codes... Yes it is a bit more work but so so worth it.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 02/07/2021 20:46

Must remember to check the dates on the exchange flights with BA and Easyjet.

I figured we might as well exchange given we go away a lot normally. But dud they only have 12 months to rebook? Anyone know the rules. I literally haven’t got the energy to go through the website AGAIN fir the latest vagueries

FortniteBoysMum · 02/07/2021 20:46

If it goes green I'm looking at Greece. Double jabbed do not need a test neither do under 12's. Our eldest will need one bit if only him it's not so bad. Waiting to see how the return will look as currently to enter UK we all need a test. Greece also accept the Indian astra zenecca jab which some countries are refusing if your jab was a certain batch. Now I need Greece to go green, the UK to say we can come home if fully jabbed without a test and to up the age from under 10 to under 12s not needing a test to enter. Then it's one child tested each way. If we all need it that's 5 tests possibly 4 if our youngest is exempt due to medical grounds. Only thing is no where can you find out which medical conditions are exempt. Not even on the gov website. They don't even know themselves.

@sjk17 thank you for recognising the incompetent government we have here. Sadly too many people in the UK don't think as you do.

Let us know which country you're in so we don't come? Because several European countries welcome UK tourists as their economy is unfortunately held together literally only by tourism and a piece of tape.

So it would be unfortunate if people saw your comment and assume this is true for all of Europe

Exactly what I was thinking too. This poster must be fortunate not to be in that position.

Not booking anything until at least summer next year, not worth the hassle. We haven't been abroad since 2016 though, we try and fly as little as possible. Holidays abroad aren't crucial, are they? Someone I work with keeps whining cos they are 'really used to at least 3 or 4 long weekends in Spain each year as well as the proper holidays' and I just roll my eyes... no acknowledgement of how insanely privileged that makes them.

I really, really feel for people with family abroad though.

sawind · 04/07/2021 00:10

We're steering clear of overseas holidays until we feel there's less risk of last minute changes to quarantine. We've not had to do any self-isolation as yet, and we're lucky that DH could wfh, but DD is at nursery and I don't want her to not be able to return to nursery immediately/be stuck with entertaining her at home.

We've had a week away on the Isle of Wight this year, and have 3 other UK short breaks planned so far, so we have trips to look forward to. Just wish the weather was more reliable!

AgentJohnson · 04/07/2021 09:19

I would like to go to London (I live in the Netherlands) but I won’t because of the uncertainty. I’ll just save my money and have a more lux holiday when the situation changes. A holiday when everything is so uncertain wouldn’t be much fun anyway.
