To have removed a Covid conspiracy sticker?

There was a sticker up at the bus stop today along the lines of "resistance", "the media is the virus" etc. I've seen them before and found them a bit annoying. But I've never removed them thinking it wasn't my place. But for some reason today I did. There was no one else around and I just tore it off and put it in the bin. I want this all to end as much as the next person, but I feel like encouraging others to believe Covid isn't real is a step too far. Would you have done the same? I'm doubting myself now and wondering if I should have just left it alone.

YABU - you should have left the sticker up
YANBU - I would have done the same

@Justanotherlurker Apologies if that's how it came across. Genuinely not looking for a pat on the back. I was just doubting myself whether it was my place to take it down. As another poster alludes to, is it free speech and therefore only up to the local authorities to take it down (as it is vandalism)?

I’d have done the same. They are free to put them up and I am free to take them down.

There's at least one around here who keeps sticking them on the gates and information boards in the nature reserve. Hand sanitiser gel dissolves the glue beautifully for easy removal!

Tackling vandalism, in effect. Seems a reasonable thing to do.

@LegoCaltrops

DH defaces them. In humorous, insulting and amusing ways. For example, one recent sticker mentioned being suspicious of SAGE. DH added "& onion." He now carries a sharpie especially for this purpose.
Your dh is a legend 🙂 have now put a sharpie in my own handbag.

I voted YABU, but only because I wouldn’t have removed the sticker.

It’s not that I don’t agree with you, I do. It’s just that even though I don’t agree with the conspiracy theorists, I do believe that they have a right to have their say.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/07/2021 12:44

They can have their say without defacing property. They have all the same means to do so as the rest of of us.

Jaxhog · 01/07/2021 12:47

If it's valid to put them up, it's equally valid to take them off.
