Neighbour Noise

Need to know if I am being mental.

I live in a flat and have upstairs neighbours. These neighbours are in a band. Every day they crash around, drag things along the floor, play instruments etc.

Every. Fucking. Day.

Not in the morning. In the morning they're clearly in bed and it's blissful. But come 2pm the noise starts and doesn't stop.

Their landlord has put laminate flooring in. Not their fault but it adds to the noise.

I've been up to say "hi I'm wfh at the moment and so please keep it down" so many times.

Today the noise started at 2 and didn't stop. In the evening I just completely lost it and started throwing heavy things at the ceiling every time I heard them. I think this is a bit mental. But I am at my wits end. I've had a year and 3 months of this.

I think you should move

I own the flat, so not as simple as ending a tenancy. I don't see why I should move because of them being noisy.

Are they renting or also own?

I would go straight to a lawyers letter outlining the action you will take in very formal, assertive language. It sounds like pure hell.

Is there a management company who you pay service fees to? I owned a flat and whenever there was any problem regarding neighbours or repairs etc they would deal with it.
If not then contact the landlord directly

Thanks for your posts guys.

You're right it is hell. Hard to focus on work. Have to explain to people on calls why there is loud banging... cringe!

Usually I am assertive but this evening I do think I was unreasonable in throwing things at the ceiling. I'm so sick of it after 15 months and as I said I just completely lost the plot.

Have you checked your lease? It’s likely to be similar to theirs and there may well be a clause about loud music/noise in there - ours has one saying music etc shouldn’t be heard outside the flat (tbf we and neighbours both sometimes have music on and can hear it but we get on well and we’re not in a band). There may also be something in their/the landlord’s lease about having to keep floors carpeted?

Blimey! I'd have been on to their landlord and the council after the first week of this.
Council will move with glacial slowness of course but you may get some action eventually.
Can you contact the landlord to complain? Tell her/him you are reporting them to the council and maybe something will get done.
Also pretty sure they aren't allowed hard floors in upper level flats. Maybe look into that.
