Ridiculous.

So fed up with how the young constantly have to just suck up restrictions, zero fun, disruption and mental health pressures( with precious little support) when it isn’t the same everywhere.

To be fair my DC's school has managed school trips (on coaches) so I think this might be your individual school's decision.

Dozer · 29/06/2021 19:10

Give the school some stick, OP.

ssd · 29/06/2021 19:11

Totally agree

Its ridiculous

I started a similar thread about how difficult it is to get a face to face gp appointment..comparing it with all the fans at the football

Comedycook · 29/06/2021 19:12

It's a complete piss take.

Why are children being held responsible for this shite

canary1 · 29/06/2021 19:12

It’s ridiculous. The DfE need to change their advice to schools. The wholething is disgusting.

Spekoppar · 29/06/2021 19:14

Think your issue is with your school/LA, our school have been doing (separate) trips for all year groups travelling on coaches.

Ridiculousradish · 29/06/2021 19:14

I can't believe I can't go and watch sports day outside. Everyone can wear a mask and be distanced. Fuckers. It's absolute madness.

Arbadacarba · 29/06/2021 19:15

Totally agree, OP.

LakeShoreD · 29/06/2021 19:15

We’ve been told by the school that we’re not allowed to watch sports day. Which is in a public park. So we can go for a walk but have to avert our eyes in case we catch covid from glancing a glimpse of the 100 metres sprint??

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/06/2021 19:16

I know that a local school has been on a trip on a coach this week so it can't be banned. Your issue might be school specific.

Public transport has never stopped, maybe they can't afford 2 coaches rather than not being allowed to organise a trip

Jessop5 · 29/06/2021 19:17

Increased risk in our area apparently. So there is nobody in that maskless stadium from an area with increased risk?🤔

OP posts:
LazenbyLane · 29/06/2021 19:20

There are so many schools with bubbles closed, year groups at home and many school closures. This hasn't gone away. If the testing of fans is accurate they will be fine..if not....

I know of a school closure caused by an outdoor party where all teenagers are infected with COVID. Some, sadly really poorly.

Fear for isolation or illness at the start of the holidays.

Jessop5 · 29/06/2021 19:22

They do lateral testing twice a week and send home bubbles!!!! They travel in on coaches and trains. It’s nuts.

CagneyNYPD · 29/06/2021 19:24

This is an individual school decision. My ds is going on 2 trips in the next couple of weeks - both by coach. They have been told to wear face masks as if on public transport.

If you are in a surge testing area then I can possibly understand the cancellation. But if not, then you have every right to email the school and ask for further clarification.

My dd's primary school were even able to take half of Year 6 to Wales for their leaver's residential last week and this. 4 nights away in their bubbles.

It can be done. But perhaps there are significant staffing issues in the school that they do not wish to reveal.

Crazycakelady17 · 29/06/2021 19:24

I agree it’s ridiculous but I think it’s your local LA
My y6 DD residential went ahead a few weeks ago they went on a coach
And they are off to Blackpool next week again on a coach 2 classes one coach

CagneyNYPD · 29/06/2021 19:26

Oh and we are in the South East so not the highest Covid rates in the country but still rising.

motogogo · 29/06/2021 19:26

It's ridiculous, the sports events are really annoying us too. We had to cancel an event with 120 double vaccinated people in a field last week, as if that was high risk!

TheSockMonster · 29/06/2021 19:33

I agree.

My DD is in year 6 and her high school transition days have been cancelled because they can’t keep all the bubbles (from different feeder schools) completely separated. Open days obviously did not go ahead. They’ve had one zoom call from their head of year. The first time she sets foot in the school will be on her first day in September. She is very anxious about high school and really needed that chance to see the school and meet the teachers.

I’m sure there are ways to do some of these things safely. But, as DH says, there’s no money in high school transition days compared to sporting fixtures.

notalwaysalondoner · 29/06/2021 19:43

It’s crazy. I couldn’t believe it when I read they are “considering” not having whole school bubbles isolating from the autumn - I assumed that would also stop 19th July as basically all other restrictions are ending, and you can be sure companies won’t send their whole office home because one person has tested positive, but our kids are still expected to sit at home and isolate until god knows when…

wordsareveryunnecessary · 29/06/2021 19:45

Careful OP. Another person started a similar thread and responses were not kind

Silverparting · 29/06/2021 19:49

My son's school is the same. We live in an area of risk (Birmingham) so trip cancelled.

wordsareveryunnecessary · 29/06/2021 20:31

Anyone in Sheffield? wondering if our secondary sports day could be cancelled (end of term)

cadburyegg · 29/06/2021 20:33

Agree. Totally fucking stupid. Think of the pubs full tonight as well Hmm

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/06/2021 20:36

I'm not in Sheffield but I can confidently tell you that the sports day might be cancelled Grin

Not being wholly facetious, that goes without saying doesn't it?
