I handed my notice today

After working in the role for 5 years-
Part time hours but all through that time worked 7 days most weeks
Raised this couple of times no support
Have done 2 roles for a year due to recruitment freeze
Took additional bits to support team
Met all KPI

But the pressure is too much so decided to hand in notice- reaction from my manager was to make it sound I’m incapable of the ‘senior role’ - would you have stayed in a role like this?

Aprilx · 29/06/2021 17:34

No I would not have worked seven days a week for five years.

OlympicProcrastinator · 29/06/2021 17:35

Nope. Sounds like you did the right thing. Your manager was being a knob saying that.

Paq · 29/06/2021 17:35

You've absolutely done the right thing.

IncyWincy21 · 29/06/2021 17:37

Nope.
You done the right thing. They'll just be pissed they have no one to carry two work loads and work 7 days.
Best off out of there.

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:37

Thank you- I’ve suffered panic attacks- sleepless nights trying to meet deadlines- but the conversation was all about how I’m not capable of holding the role while the changes are being made…it’s been 5 years I’ve been raising but not taken seriously because I was carrying in despite the pressure on me…

It will honestly liberate you!
What ongoing exciting plans do you have?

Remember, chest out, chin up….onwards! Smile

AnotherKrampus · 29/06/2021 17:40

Well done in reclaiming your life. They going to have a rude awakening trying to replace you!

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:40

I have commented on other threads - I’m yet to be vaccinated partly due to a family issue of clots/allergies which makes it a bit tricky for me. I’m waiting for my husband/mum to be double vaccinated- issue on dads side so affects dad and looks like potentially me and sis to be double vaccinated before I go for it…
The office wants us back so told that I’m having a issue due to this- the response I’m not fighting that battle with you as you are leaving…
I was planning to go in tomorrow as I have been in the previous weeks but not now- I’m not being a fool any longer

Brefugee · 29/06/2021 17:40

If I'd planned to resign I'd have spent the last 3 months working exactly my hours and not one second more.
Congrats, OP!

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:41

@AnotherKrampus judging by the place- they will get a man in (sorry not being sexist but that’s my experience) and give him additional support…

OP posts:
lobsterkiller · 29/06/2021 17:41

No, youve done the right thing. No way should people work beyond their hours with zero recognition or additional pay.

gillysSong · 29/06/2021 17:42

Tell him, he'll find it hard to recruit anyone prepared to work 7 days a week. Senior position or not.
In fact, don't seniors have fewer hours to everyone else.
He'll be crapping finding some other mug.

Candleabra · 29/06/2021 17:42

No of course not. I hope you get some R&R.
Some roles are just relentless, and my worst times at work were when I had an unsupportive line manager.

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:43

@Brefugee I wasn’t until last night at 2 am I was doubled in my loo trying to force myself to be sick to relive a migraine- due to stress
I was in a ball in my loo and I caught is glimpse of my reflection and I thought so what’s this for then??

OP posts:
Windmeneckin · 29/06/2021 17:48

You won't regret it-the world awaits! I have done this because I was being bullied. Everything worked out and I am now absolutely loving my job. I would get some medical advice about the vaccine though, that is very important as there are many ill informed people giving 'advice'. I would speak to your GP asap and hopefully you can soon be protected.

QueenBee52 · 29/06/2021 17:49

Congratulations OP 🎉

free yourself from the stress 🌸

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:50

@Windmeneckin I did speak to the gp - was non commital but said if you take it you need to make sure you don’t leave immediately even if it’s AZ - i might be allergic to ingredients on both…

I did this back in March this year. My manager reacted similar to yours. Thought it was my issue and that I couldn't handle it. I felt like I was trying to do 3 people's jobs at once and the workload split was unfair. I had worked it out. There was a couple of weeks where I did wonder if I did the correct thing (I handed my notice in with nowhere to go), but found a much better job and can now have time to breathe. Its much much better.

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:52

@QueenBee52 that’s what it felt like..I thought finances, not getting a job all will encompass me, when I put my phone down I cried and cried but then realised it wasn’t the worry my body was relieved after 5 years! The first thing that came to mind was tonight I can read a book before bed and not work from bed

OP posts:
Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 17:53

@OrangeBananaFish thank you - yes I don’t have anything lined up but I have hope…

you did the right thing.. put yourself first and enjoy that Book 🌸

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/06/2021 17:59

I hope you're owed some annual leave so that your final working day is a lot sooner than the end of your notice period.

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 18:01

@MrsMoastyToasty of course I have because I haven’t had time to take A/L..even when I take a/l I’ve worked those days…

I’m looking at the days tomorrow and finalising my last day- and I’m not planning to go into office as initially thought as well…

OP posts:
HUCKMUCK · 29/06/2021 18:10

Good for you. It’s at times like these when you realise how little some workplaces think of their staff.

Your manager won’t want to acknowledge why you’re leaving as it reflects poorly on his ability to manage the situation.

We have a recruitment freeze in place but nobody is being asked to shoulder so much extra work that it makes them ill.

I hope you find something soon and I hope you can be out of there asap Flowers

Namechanged4thi5 · 29/06/2021 18:14

It’s a she - but she has that attitude- she thinks she’s very loyal to the management so anyone like me who don’t always sing praises for no apparent reason are seen as traitors…
