To ask for your best teacher presents

One of the teachers at my kids school is leaving at the end of term. She has been there for years and taught 3 of my kids. She is just a bloody amazing teacher, one of those ones who really goes all out and I'd really like to get her something to show our appreciation. But I know that teachers get lots of stuff they don't actually want so
Does anyone have a really great idea for me?
She is passionate about reading and books, would a book token just be terribly boring and seem unimaginative? I think though at least with that she could get something she really liked?

I know a few teachers and a book token or high street gift voucher would be preferable.

I'm a teacher and my best ever present has been a Marks and Spencer voucher - BUT it really is entirely true that a really nice, detailed card or letter is fantastic- I have had several of these through the years - they are worth more than gifts, truly

My son-in-law was given a hand made card by one of his Year 11 leavers, she'd incorporated lots of messages, subject-based jokes and so on, she said how much she appreciated his encouragement in a difficult subject. I think he would have appreciated that far more than other more conventional gifts.

My late OH always kept a beautiful letter written to him by a parent when he left one job, the mugs, wine, beer etc were long gone, this was almost 50 years old.

A massage appointment.

A book token and some nice tea/coffee would be thoughtful in a 'choose a book and relax' kind of way.

Gift card. 100%.

A book token is brilliant - but you might also want to look at a small gift from here. I'm a passionate reader.

Book token would be great - maybe with a personalised book mark or one made by the kids and laminated.

Southern Hemisphere here so end of year coincides with Christmas. A quirky but not-too-big nativity set went down really well (I checked later).

Here is good for a look. www.worldnativity.com/nativities-for-sale.html

Thank you all, looks like the book token idea is fine then. We had already planned to do a card from us and the kids.

I love some of the pencils on that site!

I think they would be perfect in addition to a book token

Verbena87 · 29/06/2021 15:36

Book token is great. I’ve not kept any presents long term but have several cards and letters saying thank you. They do mean the world.

Noodledoodledoo · 29/06/2021 16:24

Book token or One 4 all card for various shops, can get them from Post Office.

If you want to buy a thing - go for something that can be used up - I had a fab notebook with my name on - was thoughtful but also when I had used it (thinking of the child everytime) I didn't feel bad not keeping it! Most teachers I know love stationery - a pen with her name on is a nice thing - useful and no one will steal it!

Butteredtoast55 · 29/06/2021 16:36

Three things I loved: a slate heart with a chalk-written quote from what the children know to be my favourite book; a framed 'wordle' of things we (the class) had done together and about me, and a Shakespeare anthology in which the child had written a quote from a play we had done together. It was something she said in character but at the time I received it, it had a powerful meaning and made me sob.

And I always love something for my garden!

I’d go Amazon rather than book token as she may have a kindle. It’s also not limited to books.
