Neighbours trees interfering with my Sky

SamW98 · 28/06/2021 14:32

The last few weeks my Sky keeps breaking up. I got a mate who's an engineer to have a look in case there was a fault and he said the reason is that my neighbours have very high trees which have grown and are now directly in the line of where my signal is being received.

So I gave them a knock and, very politely asked if they could just cut the tops down a bit and explained why. The man who lives there looked me up and down and said 'how sad is it that you think watching tv more important than trees that have been there since before I was born' and shut the door

Now I'm not asking him to cut the trees down just cut the top back so I can watch my Sky without it breaking up

AIBU if I now cut the tops back myself? They do overhang into my garden anyway?

Chop anything over that overhangs your garden. He's a selfish pig. I have it with my neighbour. People shouldn't have trees if they won't maintain them.

🤣🤣🤣 Of course he is. Imagine refusing to chop down your trees to enable next door to get better tv reception? Only a complete animal would ask do that.
SamW98 · 28/06/2021 15:40

Why would it be a wind up? These trees are very high, taller than my house and all I am asking is that we trim back Male a foot maximum that does overhang my garden.

The trees are right against my fence and lean slightly and so they do overhang my garden. If I drew a line directly up from my fence I would say the top 5-6 feet do lean into my side of the garden.

Maybe not male

I'm not asking him to remove his trees just fine them a bit of a trim

Oh my gosh. No we don't cut trees to enable you a more seamless Sky viewing experience GrinGrin
Move the bloody box!

namechange30455 · 28/06/2021 15:43

Just move the dish FFS.

You're not supposed to cut trees back during nesting season anyway.

It’s not an easy job to cut the tops off tall trees and he would probably have to hire a professional to do it. You could ask him if he’d be willing to have them cut if you arranged and paid for it but it doesn’t sound like he’d be willing. It would probably be cheaper to have your dish moved anyway.

SamW98 · 28/06/2021 15:49

@yellowsubmarines

Is moving your dish not an option? Seems much simpler than chopping neighbouring trees. It always puzzles me when people move to areas with trees and then set about finding reasons to chop them. Move your dish OP or move to an area with no trees?
I lived here 18 years and its inly recently the trees have grown to the height they are now. I haven't just moved in and started complaining

Just have the sky box moved.

Confused
jimmyhill · 28/06/2021 15:50

If it's just genuinely overhanging branches then, as long as there's not a tree protection order and you can do the work from your own land, you can chop back yourself (but not during nesting season and you have to return the clippings to the neighbour unless you agree otherwise)

FlaminEckVera · 28/06/2021 15:51

The trees are 'taller than your house,' but they 'lean against your fence'?? How does that work then? How the fudge is your fence still standing? 🤣🤣🤣

And how does ONLY the top 5-6 feet lean into your garden? But the other 20-odd feet doesn't? You are making less sense with each passing post!

The trees were there before you moved in, and before you were born - your words in your OP ... So you're taking the piss if you think anyone should chop them to improve YOUR sky tv reception.

I'd tell you to F-off to be honest. Cheeky fecker.

Oh and WHY can you not move your dish? Loads of posters have asked!!!

SamW98 · 28/06/2021 15:51

As I can't edit the last post - the trees have been there since I moved but they were nowhere near the height they are now and didn't overhang as much.
Its only as the years have gone on they have got so tall and also because they lean towards my fence (its a side fence not a back fence) the top bit that overhangs seems to be dropping' (for want of a better expression)

Nice drip feed there.

Returnoftheowl · 28/06/2021 15:53

I think moving the box is the best option.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/06/2021 15:53

People shouldn't have trees if they won't maintain them. Maintaining trees should be done for the health of the trees, and doesn't usually involve cutting the tops out of them.

2021DNA · 28/06/2021 15:53

Well he burned his bridge of resolving this amicably. Take matters into your own hands OP.

Okcookie · 28/06/2021 15:54

YABU but you're one of those posters who can't take the answer they've asked for

PurpleyBlue · 28/06/2021 15:55

Why can't you move the sky thingy?

I have nothing constructive to add but just want to out myself as very technologically lacking - I though you meant sky as in proper real sky, the type with clouds and sun and rain.

Dontate · 28/06/2021 15:57

Mostly rain

Lorw · 28/06/2021 15:59

Surely it would just be cheaper to move your sky dish? He doesn’t have to cut them and you would have to hire professionals if you cut the ‘overhang’ which are pricey.

Moving the box won't make any difference.

Moving the dish might help.
