To think felling these trees is a disgrace!

On the Isle of Man somehow planning has been given to fell some internationally important elm tress. www.change.org/p/deparment-of-environment-food-and-agriculture-stop-the-felling-of-the-st-marks-elms

This is not on at all. How can a Government agree for this to happen? I really can’t see any justification. It is typical is governments everywhere to play lip service on environmental issues and then go back to the default idea that the car is king!
I can’t think of any justification for it really!

I guess the justification is saving lives. If there is a risk of collisions because people exiting their driveways can't see oncoming traffic (or be seen by oncoming traffic) then it's an accident waiting to happen. You can see in the picture that one of the entrances has a mirror up, but those only do so much good.

I don't know where exactly that road is but a lot of the roads on the Isle on Man don't have speed limits, so it's possible that cars and bikes will be tearing along it at very high speeds. A bit more visibility may save lives, and human lives are more important than a few old trees.

Mr Perkins said only seven of the trees to be removed were of good quality, and the vast majority of the avenue would be unaffected, with "well over 300 trees remaining".

If only 7 I being removed for safety reasons I can't really get bothered by it.

There's some pretty fearsome kit that can uproot and move pretty large trees, I wonder if that's viable?

Are being removed, not I.
