Elderly aunts bruised hand

My aunt is in a care home, I visited her today and saw a massive bruise on her hand. I asked what had happened to one of the staff and she said she didn’t know but would get someone to call me.
I know elderly people bruise more easily but this looks horrendous.

Stop saying she has no medical conditions when she blatantly does.
Elderly people can and do bruise very easily from the slightest of bumps.

She has arthritis and dementia - quite severe if she can’t explain the bruise.

Are you sure she isn’t on any medication?

Is it vascular dementia?

Echoing others - it looks very like the bruises my grandmother used to get from having a cannula in the back of her hand.

I am 70 and bruising has got worse as I get older, I can bruise my arm or hand putting on a cardigan, if the fabric pinches the skin, or carrying a shopping bag on my arm.I am not on blood thinners, I just have fragile blood vessels and skin. It doesn't cause any medical problems, or pain. My mother was the same and my older sister, so it probably an inherited weakness.

@HollowTalk

How can it be a breach of her privacy if a photo of just her hand is shown?
Because it's her hand.

My lovely f'n'law had severe dementia unfort and was in a nursing home we were very happy with.....except we did have some problems. Once he had broken his finger and no one noticed...another time we went in and it was clear a temp staff member had treated him badly. It's not fair to judge but we did find that in his home the long term staff were lovely but some of the temp staff less patient with dementia patients sadly.
I know elderly people bruise badly especially those on blood thinners but that is a very bad bruise and I would be expecting home to explain too. Its lucky your aunt has you.
