Looking for somewhere good for kids. Dh has never seen the illuminations so thought this would be nice. Zoo, sandcastle, beach - but is it really horrific? Wales is the other possibility but doesn’t seem as much on.

Just come back. Was a cheap B&B but little one enjoyed the fair and sandcastle water park

Treblebass · 15/10/2021 19:45

@ApocalypseNowt

It’s not just Blackpool, try being from Coventry, I mean at least you have a beach 🤣.

Treblebass · 15/10/2021 19:45

And we don’t exist because we are smack bang in the middle and neither northern or southern.

ApocalypseNowt · 15/10/2021 20:13

@Treblebass Well I've never been to Coventry but I'm sure it has its charms Grin

Treblebass · 16/10/2021 12:55

Sure does to me Grin

Ted27 · 16/10/2021 13:01

as a Liverpudlian living in Coventry, its a great time to be living and visiting here.

I’m just off to do a shift as a City Host for a city of culture event. There is so much going on, new venues, new hotels, city centre revamped

Not great for shopping though

come and visit

It's all relative. If you compare to City of London, it comes out looking rather good. Yet I bet if someone posted about staying in London, the thread wouldn't be full of derogatory comments.

Treblebass · 16/10/2021 15:05

@Ted27

Enjoy your shift. Coventry born and bred here, and I would agree there’s lots more going on these days.

MrsKeats · 16/10/2021 17:14

You can compare it to anywhere.
I wish people could tell the difference between their opinion and facts.
Blackpool has a high crime rate like it or not.
I'm a northerner before you start with it's anti north rhetoric.

Groovee · 16/10/2021 17:30

We did the heritage team for the illumations which was fun.

We stayed at Ribby Hall.

Kanaloa · 16/10/2021 19:05

@MrsKeats

You can compare it to anywhere. I wish people could tell the difference between their opinion and facts. Blackpool has a high crime rate like it or not. I'm a northerner before you start with it's anti north rhetoric.
But? You can’t refer to it as ‘high’ without comparing it to something else. High is relative. When it is compared to another popular break destination (London) which a lot of people flock to say is a fab place to visit, Blackpool has less crime. The only place it scores very high is anti social behaviour, which while unpleasant is unlikely to be dangerous for holidaymakers.
Kanaloa · 16/10/2021 19:05

And to say you wish people could tell the difference between their opinions and facts you don’t seem to be doing that.

MrsKeats · 16/10/2021 19:21

It's the highest crime rate town in Lancashire-fact not opinion.

Kanaloa · 16/10/2021 19:30

Right. In Lancashire. It is still relatively safer than many big cities and other places not in Lancashire. Fact.

Honestly if you don’t like it you don’t need to visit but there’s no point insisting it’s some kind of other world crime city where you’ll have your head chopped off and mounted on spikes the second you cross the border. You can just say I wouldn’t fancy Blackpool for a holiday.

Kanaloa · 16/10/2021 19:30

So yes, it’s ‘high’ compared to Lancaster. But it’s ‘low’ compared to London. That’s why saying it’s ‘high’ isn’t correct, because it isn’t relative.

MrsKeats · 16/10/2021 19:38

I don't I really hated it.

Aliveandkicking23 · 16/10/2021 19:40

If you have children when in Blackpool you go to
The beach, zoo,tower, arcades pleasure beach, piers, Stanley park and other family attractions.
You don't take them to night clubs or other adult places.
This is the same as when going to any other town or city in the country.
We in our 60's now and go a couple of times a year.
Even when we were in our 30's, 40's and 50's we didn't go to the areas that were trouble magnets.
Stag and Hen parties has given Blackpool a bad name.

Thingstodotoday · 16/10/2021 23:52

@MyPatronusIsACat have you ever considered people might want more than a look at electricity in action and a “catalogue surplus” place on their break.
That sounds like utter dog shit Grin.

ShepherdMoons · 17/10/2021 06:12

You will probably have more luck seeing the illuminations if you stay in Blackpool, when I took dd years ago we just drove up for the night and got stuck in queues of traffic. We ended up turning around and going home.

Treblebass · 17/10/2021 09:37

We are planning on just walking the illuminations we have a hotel booked for the night.
