Head lice?

So I stupidly thought that as my son has very short hair (think grade 2 on the back and sides and slightly longer on top) that he couldn't get head lice. I know.

Message from school to say it's essentially an infestation in the class. Picked up Hedrin (the 5 minute one) on the way home from school. Did his hair tonight and appears only eggs (nits) or dandruff. No idea. I combed his hair for what felt like forever and nothing brown or alive or even bug like. Just bits of white/yellow stuff. He's not been itching but his best mate has been itching like crazy for months (long hair, hence me doing nothing before now).

Any tips? Comb every day? Hedrin once a week? Do I need to do myself (I bleach my hair and straighten/curl if that makes any difference)? My skin is crawling haha.

Thank you Smile.

Thank you all so much. I've ordered a nitty gritty comb and the Vosene repellent spray. I'm feeling much calmer now haha. Thank you again Smile.

I know they are not recommended but as an addition, has anyone used an electric zapper comb and if so, which brand as amazon reviews are all over the shop. Sorry for hijack OP. Outbreak at school, have checked my two but not found owt yet have some mangoey hedrin protect spray but quite fancied a zapper on top.

No need to apologise! I do enjoy my fly zapper.

Conditioner ! Nit comb everytime they have shower or bath and the best way to see anything is wiping the nit Comb on white kitchen roll I know it’s a pain but it’s the best way to catch them quick ! And live lice are hard to see sometimes x

I was told as a kid that you should smother the hair in cheap vodka, then put a shower cap on top

Apparently it makes lice and eggs really easy to get out that way with a comb and conditioner

Babyiskickingmyribs · 24/06/2021 21:41

Oh, one thing I forgot in my post. You need to comb through with the nit comb regularly in case you missed an egg - you want to avoid a new generation of lice hatching and starting over again. Or just avoid getting reinfested from other children in the class.

No zappers? How's it going OP?
Am loath to pay out 25 quid if the shit reviews are correct. The Hedrin Protect spray smells lovely btw. Our school is broke - I think they'd make a ton of money if the PTA held a nit party as per Motherland.
Have just checked DC2 again. Am obsessed with my white comb and kitchen roll but paranoid about everything. Cannot see any eggs or shells or anything lice like but iirc - and I am going back a decade - aren't black pepper dots that are absolutely minute, babies?

dementedpixie · 24/06/2021 22:47

If the lice are on the scalp then the zapper thing won't get close enough to kill them. I'd save your money

It's making my head itch reading it.

They're buggers and I remember when I was young at school and I sat next to a girl and I saw them in her hair. There was a lot.

I asked my mum when I got home what was crawling around in her hair. I didn't ask the girl obviously we were like 4.

I had loads of them too. I remember them all coming out 🤢. I didn't get them again after that.

Nits all Gone. On eBay coat the hair and scalp, leave on wash and comb out ..
