Neighbour son and cars

Anonmummyoftwo · 24/06/2021 07:42

Neighbours adult son is a mechanic and doesn’t live with her he has his own house and family. He works in a car shop ran by someone else. My aibu is would I be unreasonable to ring the council and complain because almost every night now he’s been working on cars outside in the little car park behinds our houses. Right under my window. It’s not family cars it’s his friends and they pay him but it’s the music blasting and car engine revving and shouting at each other from around 8pm till at least 1 sometimes later. Last night at 11 I went out and said I’m trying to sleep and my kids could hear it to and was told il be finished soon and it sounded like then the music got louder. I have said to his mother before as it seems to always happen when the weather improves and she just said he’s doing a bit of side work what can you do. It’s the bloody rubbish in my garden now aswell they throw everything in. A few neighbours said they contacted the council before as it’s a council house she’s in and because it’s nighttime it’s happening they got told to call police which they did and it stopped for a few weeks just. I’m thinking off getting a security camera or something out my back to video this but if I do can it even be used. It’s normally a great little street and everyone gets on bar this family because this isn’t the only issue people have with them. They stole a neighbours pregnant dog once out of her garden but lucky another neighbour seen and got the dog back. Aibu for wanting to actually sleep at night and not have a pile of rubbish in my garden

I would ring the council. Fair enough he needs to make a living but he's behaving like a twat and the litter is totally out of line.

StandWithYou · 24/06/2021 07:46

If he is effectively running a business, your neighbour says it’s a bit of side work, you can inform the council.

Sirzy · 24/06/2021 07:46

I would also report them for fly tipping if they are leaving rubbish behind

MumBowJumBow · 24/06/2021 07:48

Ring them. He is purposely being disrespectful and antisocial

Tuberoses · 24/06/2021 07:51

He’s not allowed to use that area to run a business, the council will put a stop to it.

Anonmummyoftwo · 24/06/2021 07:53

Thank you everyone I’m ringing council today and il be ordering a camera off Amazon today to get it on video. I can’t go through this all summer I’d end up crazy. Same neighbour complains if someone cuts the grass before 10am

I hope your all going to agree locally that 9am is a perfect grass cutting time then Wink

Keep a noise diary, check your local council bylaws but generally this is 10 or 11pm. Proving he's running a business and not helping a mate out is far harder to prove but they might issue him with a warning letter. I had a neighbour selling cars on their front, I took time stamped photos proving it wasn't just a couple of cars, you could do the same to demonstrate it's not just one or two friends/projects

ApolloandDaphne · 24/06/2021 07:56

Who owns the car park he is working in?

Anonmummyoftwo · 24/06/2021 08:52

The car park isn’t really a car park it’s just the back of all the houses. It’s more than friends it’s a different car each night. Trying to actually find if he’s things on Facebook like a ad I’m almost sure I seen it before. Iv just did the school run think my grass needs cut and next door aswell.

One of my uncle's neighbours started dealing in carpets and carpet fitting from home. Nothing like as bad as the disruption which you are suffering, but customers coming and going, lengths of carpeting being spread out for cutting, deliveries etc.
One of the neighbours complained and somebody from the council came round to see what was happening in a quiet residential close. The carpet dealer indignantly told the official that he was trying to run a business! Exactly, was the council's response, and he was set straight about the difference between residential and business areas and taxes.
Your situation sounds far worse, and the CF isn't even a resident!
In the meantime, get those lawnmowers revved up.

You can check if cars are taxed and tested online.. Then report any dodgy ones to the dvla /police. Could be stolen.

Anonmummyoftwo · 26/06/2021 15:48

Just a update in case anyone wanted it. Another neighbour also complained and ended up calling the police because when he went out to say about the noise he was told to shut up before he’s made to shut up. Police came out and neighbours son was arrested because he was also selling drugs aswell as fixing cars. It was hard drugs he was dealing also. Council will also be calling to the mums home soon as this wasn’t the first time he was reported for working on cars at night and from what a neighbour has told me she was warned about a fine and possibly more. Safe to say the mother isn’t happy with our little street at all

Holy cow! Glad he was arrested

ViewFromTheSteeple · 26/06/2021 16:06

Great update. So what if the mother isn't happy. The rest of the street is Grin
