To ask for the coil to be removed after 2 weeks?

Posting for traffic. Had the copper coil fitted 2 weeks ago and have bled ever since. It’s been worse the last 2 days, really heavy and painful but has since eased up a bit. I know you’re meant To give these things time to settle but this was so bad I could hardly sit up at one point I was so lightheaded and in so much pain. Does anyone have any similar experiences and did it get any better? Not sure whether it’s worth persevering with or not.

Mirena rather than copper. I kept getting told to “give it time….it will settle down”
I was bleeding and spotting the whole 9 months I had it in, I had to beg them to remove it.
I hope yours either settles or they let you have it removed flowers]

I bled heavily for first couple of weeks and then first three periods were heavier than usual (especially the first) but it's back to normal now, very happy with it

2 weeks doesn't sound like a lot, imo.... (she says, after having bled for 2 months after labour Shock)

I would wait until after a month and then talk to GP

It's your body and if you want it out then you are quite within your rights to ask for it to be taken out.

I keep hearing to let it settle but I don’t know if it’s worth going through that again. I couldn’t work for 2 days because it was so bad. I just want to know if it’ll get better or not but everyone seems to have such mixed experiences.

Exactly this.

You might have ti be firm about it but it's your body and you're under no obligation to preserve, you get to decide where to draw the line and call it quits. If they refuse to remove it and all else fails, tell them you want their refusal logged on your record and that you'll remove it yourself and hold them liable for any resulting damage - worked for me!

My post sounds bad in comparison to other here Grin you have every right to say put in/take out and I have had to fight tooth and nail with doctors before (overdue pregnancies.........)

I just had the Mirena coil fitted (2 days bleeding, btw). And it's such a relief!!! Not having to remember to take the pill while struggling with 3 kids, lots to do, remnants of PPD..... So personally I would wait it out a little bit because right now going back to pill just sounds like so much work

After 1 months of period pain agony I walked into casually feeling stupid, it was removed 8 weeks later, I’d had enough.

therocinante · 24/06/2021 08:33

YANBU to want it removed if you hate it, it's your body.

But two weeks isn't long to know how it'll affect you over time and personally I bled for a month or so with my first coil and then haven't since - coming up 8 years of hassle-free protection from procreating! So I'd hold on a bit longer to see if it settles.

I had the coil removed after three months of nonstop bleeding. Great contraceptive as it mostly stopped me having sex 😡

It also itched a lot in the womb/cervix. The nurse said “No it doesn’t you can’t feel it.” At which point I lost all respect for her and said “Get this out of me.” Having it gone felt amazing!

Having since read about the Mirena litigation and the number of women who were damaged by the coil, I feel I dodged a bullet.

Massive fertility problems later though. Doctor says can’t be related to the coil, but I see that they now recommend that you don’t have a coil unless you’ve finished having children. Hm.

I had the Marins coil fitted when my baby was 9 weeks old. I had it removed 3.5 weeks later. Doctor was reluctant but I put my foot down. I had bled heavily for that whole time, piercing headaches, trouble sleeping, cramping and a very short temper. I will never have anything put back in again...

Holothane · 24/06/2021 13:28

Sorry thought I’d said 11 months of period pain.
