Is there anything to do in Staffordshire?

Deliberately provocative to get you to (hopefully) come and tell me all the wonderful things that there are to do!

DH has an opportunity to work just North of Stafford for 6 weeks over the Summer. I am a SAHM with a 3 year old and we can go along for the ride. I might also persuade my parents to come for a bit too.

The catch is we have to decide very quickly (tomorrow). So what fun things can we do in the area when we won't have any friends etc to meet! If my parents come I'm also hoping to get some good food etc so hit me with the best pubs and restaurants etc.

Anything!

Of my generation (mid 40's) I am possibly broader than most though only when in conversation as you say with others of a usually older generation. I spent a lot of time with my grandad as a youngster and he was VERY broad pottery. My dad is too.

@WhiskersPete

If you like walks head out to the Roaches in the Peak District right on the border between Leek and Buxton. Amazing walks and views.
Definitely! Lots of lovely shops and cafes in Leek (don't go on a Monday, most things are shut), and you could throw in a trip to the Peak Wildlife Park too.

Neil morrisey has a pub- the plume of feathers at Barlaston plumeoffeathersbarlaston.co.uk

As well as dog walking mentioned the Isabel trail in stafford is great it follows the route of an old disused railway line between uttoxeter and Newport staffs

Doxey marshes - a wetlands area

Rowley park in stafford - a sports stadium and lots of green spaces for walking, playing etc when I was a kid the best conker trees were in rowley park (are kids allowed to gather conkers anymore?)

Stafford has regular "walking streets" with food stalls and performers etc www.enjoystaffordshire.com/whats-on/stafford-walking-street-p1195741

Stafford castle a motte and Bailey castle has walks. Pre Covid annual open air Shakespeare plays www.staffordbc.gov.uk/stafford-castle-and-visitor-centre

Ds and his girlfriend wern't very impressed with the Plume of Feathers recently. But her Dad is a chef so she has high standards. They do rate Hand & Trumpet at Betley.

Thank you all SO much. I was feeling a bit bleak about the summer with travel bans etc but now I am feeling positive and spritely and keen to explore.
We have signed on the dotted line. Adventures here we come!

@AlanThePig

You can visit my ducks 😂
This is the only one worth doing.
Comefromaway · 24/06/2021 15:40

I want to come and visit your ducks! I’m told there is an air b & b nearby.

Ah, the Swan with Two Necks takes me back! I'm from South Staffs and we went skiing with a school from Newcastle one year. Made friends with the girl whose parents ran it at the time and stayed for the weekend.

We liked this place - a soft play in Stone for a rainy day

Me too. DH and I had our first date in there and we’ve been married 25 years this year Shock

The ice cream farm is great and not too far to drive

Monkey forest at Trentham

Bewilderwood - not too far to drive

There’s a new MacArthur Glen shopping outlet village thing in Cannock. I’m really stretching the limits of things to do now (though I do love a mooch around an MG outlet).

Have you been recently, be good to know if it’s calmed down any? DS and I went for a mooch last month and it was absolutely mental. Weekday lunchtime and every single store had a ten deep queue outside. I used the loo and we came away. Reminded me why I prefer Cheshire Oaks tbh.

Me three. Live in Hampshire now but grew up around Bagnall/Endon.

I used to love going to the Swan with Two Necks as a kid with its big playground outside!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 25/06/2021 07:55

I haven’t yet @AlanThePig - I’m more used to the Ashford one and really liked Cheshire Oaks too. Keen to try it though (DH will be excited by there being a Wagamama’s)
