Best/Worst/Untraceable Good Deed

To balance the scales for Wrongdoing's hilarious (but rather frightening...) thread.

What are your favourite deeds or stories of good deeds.

I was in the bank one lunchtime waiting in the queue to get served. There was a Mrs Cannybody (elderly, tartan headscarf, walking stick) also a bit deaf, so everyone could hear the exchange.

Mrs Cannybody was trying to draw out £20, the server was patiently telling her she only had £15.86 in her account. Eventually Mrs. C. agreed to withdraw £15.

I completed my business, and as I walked out Mrs C. was sitting in a chair putting her precious money into her purse.

As I passed her I gave her 2 £20 notes and a cheery "treat yourself love!", and walked out.

I had been told that morning I had been given a well deserved promotion, so was sharing the love.

The picture on her face was worth every penny.

Any others?

Many years ago DH and I found an abandoned kitten in some woods while on holiday in Wales. We were staying at a B&B and weren't due to go home for a couple of days, plus we already had a cat at home so couldn't keep it. I went to the nearest farm (who may possibly have dumped it in the first place) and they gave me directions to a vet in the nearest town. It was Saturday afternoon and they were just closing but the vet took it in, promised to give it the once over and alert the Blue Cross to collect it. After posting half a hundredweight of coins into the Blue Cross collection tin I went and sat in the car and burst into tears.

I often think about that kitten and hope she had a good life.

At university, i worked part time at an IT help desk. One of my jobs was to make pre-pay printer/copier cards that students would buy and use for printing their work. These cards would be 10, 15, or 20 credits each. So each batch i made for sale, i'd make 1 card of like 200 credits. Somebody would draw a lucky card for basically free printing. Not exactly a good deed, but would make an occasional student happy. Grin
