Is there a over the counter treatment that can help my sons acne?

Ds is 14. Over the past 6 months he has developed acne. It is mostly pimples and white heads so no large cystic spots. They all over his face and now on his back, chest and top of arms. I bought acnecide but although we could see a slight improvement to start with they seem worse now. He is reluctant to go to the GP but is down about them. Anyone had any success with any products that don’t need a prescription? I’m not sure if there are any washes that he can used on his back and chest.

Carbon Theory range is brilliant and pretty cheap too. Works wonders for cystic acne! You can get it at Boots.

I'd really encourage him to see the GP. There are lots of things they can try before escalating to a referral for Isotretinoin. They have seen it so many times as well. Does he say why he doesn't want to go to the GP?

Antibiotics worked wonders for DS in a really short space of time. Over the counter topical washes, lotions and potions are far less effective. I would really encourage you to take him to the GP. Most GPs are really good about acne these days as they realise the impact it can have on wellbeing.

Oxy10 is really good. Cleared mine up overnight when I was 16. It can bleach dark pillow cases though (The Oxy5 is only good for a mild breakout).
