to ask about your best household items for £400?

I am turning 40 in a couple of weeks and my Dad is asking me what I want - budget is around £400.

We are about to buy a new house - our offer was accepted yesterday - so I was thinking of asking for a non-essential piece of equipment for the house, something that would make my life better / easier everyday... but I haven't got a single idea. What would you suggest?

Thank you.

Expensive bedding, luxury sofa cushions and rug, art work, mattress, clothes, hairdresser appointment, blender, tumble dryer, dishwasher, new TV, laptop, tablet, decor items, something for a hobby, luxury towels, money towards a holiday,

I have a gorgeous carving made of driftwood of a fish - my house is right on the beach. Also had a lovely large rug with sea colours woven through which I adore. Both were big birthday presents and I take huge joy in them

BEAN TO CUP COFFEE!!!

I cannot live without my coffee machine. It was 500 quid, and worth every penny.

I've had my Vitamix for years it's well worth the price. Definitely isn't obsolete.

However, if it was my 40th would get a painting or sculpture. Scotlandart.com has a really good selection.

Robot hoover, but seems a bit miserable.
Bean to cup coffee maker if your a lover of coffee

I would suggest buying a small fruit tree for your garden, this will just be a small part of your budget. We planted a pear tree almost 20 years ago. It gives us about 50 pears, it’s not a huge tree but it’s been lovely watching it grow. Of course there was the year that DS and his friend picked half the pears to use as balls while playing cricket, they were 9 at the time, we laugh about it now but not then.

I’m sorry to hear your Mum died recently, did she have a favourite tree at all? Maybe plant something she loved.

The sort of best quality expensive Christmas tree that fits your new house & will last you 20+ years? Every year you'll have a reminder of your dad at Xmas.

I like this one!

Something for the garden, a lovely bench, or a tree?

Shiftdust · 23/06/2021 13:46

If you already have a kitchen aid mixer I would suggest asking for some of the attachments. I know someone with the I’ve cream attachment and she says in the summer it is the best purchases she made.

Alternatively I would go with art work - maybe getting professional photo session of the family and kids - some photographers will do sessions in the woods and bluebell fields and they always look great.

The two household things I'd save in a fire (after everyone got out safely)...

  • My Sage coffee machine
  • My Roomba

Roomba and a massage Grin

Jura coffee machine
We adore ours and use it constantly.
It’s over £400 but we got ours reconditioned and was as new for £425

I got £500 for my 40th from my mum and dad. Specifically for art or jewellery. I’m looking for a piece of art as we speak!

Bean to cup coffee maker. Bought mine just before lockdown and we all love it.

What sort of art/subject matter are you looking for?! I’m an artist in my limited spare time and only sell via exhibitions or my FB page! Grin
