To be sick of being cold all the time

I am always always cold and I'm really fed up with it. I'm constantly wrapped up in hoodies and socks and jeans and unless it's about 30 degrees I'm not comfortable! I did used to live in a tropical climate but only for a few years and most of my life had been in the Uk where I have always been the same. I am slim but not skinny - bmi 20 and I'm healthy so I cannot understand why this feels so constant.
Aibu to ask if there are any medical causes for constant freezingness and an intolerance of even a gentle breeze?! Am I just one of those people?!

I'm the same and I'm sick of it. I long to live somewhere warm.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/06/2021 12:08

Im like that too.

Grellbunt · 20/06/2021 12:09

I get like that if I don't move, even gentle stretches/dancing helps get circulation going then I'm fine.

MachiaNelly · 20/06/2021 12:18

Underactive thyroid?

That's the reason I'm always cold.

Itstheprinciple · 20/06/2021 12:20

I have to be actively warm so even on a sunny day, if the sun goes behind a cloud, I hate the chilliness that comes. I'm frequently wrapped in a dressing gown over my clothes unless it's boiling hot.

Flowerpot28 · 20/06/2021 12:25

I am always cold!! Are you by any chance low in iron? This is a side affect

Sparrowsong · 20/06/2021 12:41

Thyroid, vit d deficiency

romdowa · 20/06/2021 12:45

I suffer from low blood pressure and when it drops quite low I can be freezing. Its rarely normal and I'm always on the colder side due to that

Musication · 20/06/2021 13:23

I also have low side of normal blood pressure. Maybe I do have some other kind of deficiency. It's so annoying one day I shall retire to the South of Spain or something I think when I am really old it will be the death of me. At least I'm not alone, I find it unpleasant even to have a cool breeze on a hot day 🥶

I'm on HRT (but past the menopause) and I'm convinced I'm a lizard - I'm constantly cold. I have plently of fat padding too and no hormone problems, I've just had a test for thyroid and its fine.
Raynaud's disease??

Turquoisesea · 20/06/2021 13:31

I had anaemia and was freezing all the time. My levels are normal now and I’m much better. It might just be you are someone who feels the cold but might be worth getting it checked out just in case.

BigBWatching · 20/06/2021 13:32

I’m the same, always bloody freezing, had bloods checked and all is fine. On a warm day, if the sun goes away for a minute I start shivering. On the other hand, when I do get too warm I can’t cope with that either and sweat like crazy, I think I have rubbish temperature regulation, I’m never just comfortable.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/06/2021 13:34

Me too. Was permanently frozen. And knackered.

Now taking 125 micrograms of thyroxine a day and no longer feel cold and knackered.

Get your bloods done.

Blooter · 20/06/2021 13:35

I am the same. I have low blood pressure and Raynaud's as well although don't tend to get any Raynauds symptoms in summer.

I hate the fact that I'm battling feeling cold for 9 months of the year. In fact, I even have my electric blanket on right now while chilling watching TV with my cat on my lap Smile

MachiaNelly · 20/06/2021 16:47

Get your bloods done

I'm on 50mg daily. Maybe it needs upping. Haven't had it checked for 6 months so maybe I should get that done.

LakieLady · 20/06/2021 16:58

Are you taking thyroxine?

When mine was diagnosed and I started the meds, I was able to turn the CH thermostat down several degrees and stop wearing several layers of clothes.

The difference was amazing, I actually got too hot in some people's houses, for the first time in years.

Crappyfridays7 · 20/06/2021 17:10

Also hypothyroid, When I get cold it takes an age to warm up, and I am quite intolerant to heat. Thyroxine makes little difference to me, I don’t know what it feels like to not be exhausted or not feel foggy.

You’d not be unreasonable to go to the gp for a blood test to see if you’re perhaps low on something, or you might just be a cool person. I’d prefer to be cold to hot though although freezing all the time can’t be very nice i hope you find a cause x

BearPie · 20/06/2021 17:14

On the flip side - I’m exactly the same and yet I have an overactive thyroid. I’m always freezing cold - we have our central heating on for 11 months of the year and I take a blanket in to the office.

Musication · 20/06/2021 17:21

Thanks everyone I thought I was going to get told to get over it 😂 it is tiresome though, never want to eat outside when everyone else does!
I might nip to the GP at some point

Cerealtoast2 · 20/06/2021 17:21

You sound exactly like me! Underactive thyroid and low blood pressure.

Crappyfridays7 · 21/06/2021 11:21

Op I never eat outside even when it’s warm, if it’s not brrr the hayfever is bad so can’t win

IWishTheBishopWell · 21/06/2021 12:29

I have been like this all my adult life. I have Raynauds and attribute it to that. I don't have any deficiencies like iron or B12 etc. bar a history of Vit D deficiencies which are resolved now due to taking the max OTC dose of Vit D for years on my GP's advice.

According to my bloods (GP and Rheumatology take them regularly) my thyroid is fine so it must be the raynauds.
