Parking, with diagram

Aibu to think this is a bit greedy of next door to hog both spaces with one car?

On street parking it is easy to fit one car outside each house unless you put your car in the middle of the two spaces.
Neighbour has one car. Parked as shown.
It's clear they are wanting to claim both spaces today.

Husband has had to park down the road a bit. Not the worst problem anyone ever had, granted, and yes I know they are legally allowed to park like that if they want but it's a bit annoying.

I don't think husband's car down the road will be annoying anyone as on a Sunday there is plenty of space as each house has a drive and it's only a few irritating households like us that have two cars.

I would just assume they came back and parked badly of this is a one off? Sometimes it happens, we park too far/not far enough forward.

If it were a regular thing I would have a chat, but just today? It would not bother me

This annoys the shit out of me. Happens so often near me. I'm normally a knob and park really close to their car which also means I half block in their drive 🙈. Not the best advice I know but it does give me rage.

Outbutnotoutout · 20/06/2021 12:45

If they have 1 car, why aren't they in the drive?

Alexdrake44 · 20/06/2021 12:46

Ah god this drives me mad too, where I live there’s nowhere near enough parking and you get some knob that parks in this way so they’re taking two spaces up, selfish buggers, nothing that can be done I know but 😩 irritating all the same 😂

Onlinedilema · 20/06/2021 12:49

Next time park one of your card exactly where they have.

Onlinedilema · 20/06/2021 12:49

Cars not card

ChocolateRiver · 20/06/2021 12:50

They are being really inconsiderate and I would find this annoying too. Don’t know why people feel the need to behave like this. It’s so unnecessary. Why can’t people just be kind and think of others 🤷🏻‍♀️

One of life's great mysteries.

Oh yanbu this would piss me off no end

DH parks outside ours and I pack outside neighbours (don’t have a car). I could park outside ours too but our neighbour on the side of us is mental and parks hers up so far towards us we can’t do it (plenty of room for 3 cars, ongoing issues with her).
Anyway couple move in next to neighbour I park in front of and start parking their 2 cars in a way you can’t get any others in (there’s room for 4 in that section).
I had to make sure I was home before them to stake my claim. Luckily with lockdown I stopped using mine and they’ve finally got the hint.
He told a neighbour he wouldn’t have bought the house if he didn’t know he didn’t get that full part to park on. It’s a public road!
I didn’t approach him, he’s horrible!

Hoppinggreen · 20/06/2021 13:54

@AutoGroup

I think you could argue they've improved matters.

There's now room for three cars in front of your two houses. If they're expecting a guest, guest can park across neighbour's drive and there's still room for you to park across your own drive, whereas if they'd parked in one of your indicated spaces there wouldn't be.

If there are dropped kerbs you can’t park across them, even if they are yours
AutoGroup · 20/06/2021 14:07

@Hoppinggreen that's one of those urban myths that isn't actually true. You can't park across a pedestrian dropped kerb, but this re driveways is from my local council's website.

"We would only actively enforce against obstructing dropped kerbs if this is reported to us by a resident or a business. This is because the vehicle may be parked with their knowledge or permission, in which case it would not be considered an obstruction."

EndoplasmicReticulum · 20/06/2021 14:17

Autogroup that's useful to know, thanks.

You can definitely park across your own driveway. It's not a pedestrian dropped kerb.

WestendVBroadway · 20/06/2021 14:37

OP, are you one of my neighbours? This happens in our street also, gives me the rage, it is very inconsiderate .

SeasonFinale · 20/06/2021 14:39

If he is legally parked on the highway there is nothing you can do.
