To think logging people at restaurants etc is a waste of time?

Don't understand what purpose it serves. You only have to isolate it you are within 2 metres of an infected person for more than 15 mins. Why would you be within that distance in a restaurant or cafe unless they were at your table? And in which case, you would have to give their details to contact tracing people anyway - same as you do for any contact outside hospitality? No one logs where anyone is sitting anyway or how long you are there for, so I don't see what the point is in collecting all this data on who visits what venue?

The close contact thing seems a bit questionable, I got contact traced as a guy at work tested positive. I’ve never met him nor was I in a room with him, just the same floor.

rookiemere · 19/06/2021 19:35

It puts me off sitting outside when you have to fill in the details, so no benefit to doing it. Worst was being required to do it, when I went inside to use the toilet. Mostly give fake details anyway, so totally pointless.

Imnothereforthedrama · 19/06/2021 19:39

Businesses do it because they have to , so asked yes I’ll do it but if not asked no. I agree completely pointless

Cottoncandyandpeaches · 19/06/2021 19:51

I have to ask people at work-99% of people are lovely and no problems
1% are cunts about it
I don’t get paid enough to care-fake it-I’ll take your word for it but please don’t get funny with us
We’re only trying to do our jobs-I’m the one who takes the flack from my boss if anyone gets funny about it
I fully agree it’s a waste of time and money

I thought I was the only one taking a photo of the QR code! It was accidental in my case.
However op I think you have a very fair point.

I do it on paper wherever that’s an option. I’m confident that the bits of paper will sit in a folder in the back room for a couple of years and then get binned. If there’s no paper option I take a photo of the QR code.

NotTheCatsWhiskers · 19/06/2021 20:10

I don’t do it either, I pretend.

Friend of mine got texted to say to isolate, she’d been sitting outside in a pub garden more than 2m from anyone. Makes no sense.

As others have said I just take a photo of the QR code - I dont have the track and trace app on my phone because I dont have enough space and I dont want to use the data on my phone.#

Recently at an All Bar One the staff member was very insistent so in the end I had to type in details on to his mobile - it felt very wrong in this age of GDPR concerns etc but I did it because it was the only place that had space. Our local pub just has a book that people are supposed to add their details to but from a recent visit I would estimate only about half of the customers did so

I havent seen any information on how successful the track and trace data has been in preventing infections?

As pp have said, you won't be asked to SI as a result of venue check in.

faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01312/en-us?parentid=CAT-01035&rootid=CAT-01032
"The venue check-in feature works independently of the contact tracing feature. If you get a venue alert it will not tell you to self-isolate."

Venue check-in means you may get an alert perhaps asking you to take a test. faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-01320
And that local public health people can look at possible clusters.

Ohmygoshandfolly · 21/06/2021 11:48

I’ve only been asked at one place so far, the others had the barcodes on the table or wall but didn’t ask so I didn’t bother.

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 21/06/2021 11:48

I dont have the app my phone is too old so I have to do it the old fashioned way with pen and paper. Only 1 place has actually asked for my details. Considering this is supposed to be a massive thing to get us back to normal I'm baffled.

canigooutyet · 21/06/2021 12:20

Bar staff had to go and dig out paper copies as it seemed the only working phones we had between us were not smart ones.

Not sure about the others, I keep forgetting I have new contact details.
Staff new we were taking the piss as we know each other.

I've never downloaded the app. After I read about it and how they protect data I just wasn't interested.

Paper copies are a pain for businesses because they have to be securely stored and then properly disposed of. And as with anything that contains your data they are supposed to let you know all this. Those data protections we have aren't just about our digital info.
