Pool noodles - recyclable?

I'm looking for a pool noodle for DS. Is there any on the market that can eventually be recycled ♻️
Or are they all landfill fodder?

Yes I know its pass it on to someone when I'm finished with it but eventually it will reach the end of its lifespan and need to be disposed off.

I read this as Pot noodles.. they are recyclable, at least the pots are.
Pool noodles, nor so much but you can buy one, use it and pass it on when you are done with it.

Can you try and find a second hand one? Try asking on NextDoor / neighbourhood Facebook group

Lockdownbear · 19/06/2021 08:17

Yes know they can be passed on but if I can find one made from recycled materials or ideally can be recycled eventually it would make me feel better.

I hate putting stuff, even broken damaged ancient stuff, that's beyond its lifespan, in the black bin (landfill) knowing it will be still sitting in landfill for years beyond its lifespan.

I've searched but can't find anything. I'm surprised this hasn't been done already! Surely there's a way of making stiff foam from food waste or something? If I had more know-how I'd be looking into it!

georgarina · 19/06/2021 09:07

I've been having this issue!

Never realised pool floaties were so toxic, they're all made of noxious plastic and it's been impossible to find any second hand (which was my next resort).

Thinking of getting an EVA foam belt for DC and letting it offgas outside for a week - that seems to be the best solution atm.

Lockdownbear · 19/06/2021 17:48

I'm amazed that they aren't using some sort or recycled plastic or have them made of something that can be recycled.

My mission is to buy stuff that will naturally break down or be recycled. Not stuff that will still lying in landfill in a couple of hundred years time.

There are millions of You Tube hacks to reuse pool noodles for decor & all sorts, so you could recycle it into something after

flightofthecrow · 19/06/2021 20:09

Does your pool have ones to borrow?

Thelm · 19/06/2021 20:13

Yeah I’ve had some wine and I read it as pot noodles!

Thelm · 19/06/2021 20:13

Sorry I have nothing helpful to add but hope you get sorted

Lockdownbear · 20/06/2021 08:39

@flightofthecrow

Does your pool have ones to borrow?
He normally uses borrowed ones at his lessons but we are going on holiday and I want to take one with us.

I'm really quite Shock at none of these being made from recycled materials or being recycled. And I've realised that the tons of pool inflatables that people buy every year are exactly the same.

I do wonder when the laws will change banning plastics which cannot be recycled.

Doesn’t answer your question, but I thought you might be interested in this company that at least makes stuff from discarded paddling pools/inflatables: www.wyattandjack.com/collections/inflatable-amnesty

SummaLuvin · 20/06/2021 09:00

Sorry, I’m a bit confused. Why would wanted to save the planet make you unreasonable?

flightofthecrow · 20/06/2021 09:35

Ok. to be honest I would therefore consider if you really need it?

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 20/06/2021 10:17

You can buy inflatable tubes that act in a similar way. I know paddling pools can be sent off for recycling so se inflatable noodles could be too?
