For not sending DS (6y) to a film party

Hi, please can you help me with a dilemma. DS 6 yo was invited to a birthday party along with a handful of other children to a classmate's party in his garden. Now with the ongoing rainy weather, the plan has been changed and the birthday child's mum has messaged saying they'll be taking the children to watch a film at the local multiplex to celebrate. However, I am not sure if this is a good idea - halls without windows, crowds, delta variant affecting children etc. DH feels I am catastrophising and preventing my son from enjoying a party after a very long down. Please help me make a sensible decision. Would you send your primary school aged DC to an indoors party at a venue with no windows?

DH and I have been really strict and careful since last spring and I haven’t wanted to take my DC to the cinema since they reopened but this is a birthday party so I’d definitely let him go if I were you.

Can get infected with anything, at any time. Get run over by a car. Be a James bulgar.

It’s well know covid doesn’t have an impact on the majority of children

TenThousandSpoons · 18/06/2021 22:08

I would let him yes.

Toomuchspinning · 18/06/2021 22:10

Yes, without a shadow of a doubt. Listen to your husband on this one.

I've been to the cinema twice recently and people are well spaced out, wearing masks etc. I felt quite safe

Halfling · 18/06/2021 22:14

Looks like there is an absolutely clear verdict on this one then. I guess I am being a bit unreasonable... I'll go ahead and send DS to the party tomorrow. Thank you everyone for your replies Smile

Yup, I’d send mine.

spacegirl86 · 18/06/2021 22:18

I've seen two recent pics on Facebook of friends at the cinema with noone else or only a handful of other people there. I reckon it'll be safer than you think.

Figgygal · 18/06/2021 22:18

Yup I’d let mine go to the cinema like this

Quaggars · 18/06/2021 22:40

Mine went to the cinema the other week with a friend, there's social distancing measures in place and all fine.
Yes, I think it would be fine to go, bit of fun after all the crap everyone has had in lockdown.

Hallyup6 · 18/06/2021 22:47

Absolutely I would send him. Kids need some normality back now. They're all in school together and the cinema will have to adhere to covid rules. You're being dramatic.

Twoforthree · 18/06/2021 22:49

I’d be reluctant, like you. But you can’t really say no. My YA ds has been.

I’d rather they’d had a film at home and sleepover tbh.

MysteriousMonkey · 18/06/2021 22:50

Yes, in fact we are going to the cinema this weekend with friends
