Flush then wash or wash then flush?

We just went in a family toilet to change the baby and try to put the toddler on the toilet. It was a set up where the sink is in the same cubicle as the toilet.

Anyway DH used the loo too then washed his hands then flushed the toilet.

I said oh, you should flush before you wash. He said most people would do the inverseand therefore the flush handle would be clean and should be kept clean by washing hands first.

He rolled his eyes.

What do you do? Obviously in a normal multi cubicle situation you have to flush before you wash but this set up is a bit more like home, so in this particular situation please.

Yabu - wash then flush
Yanbu - flush then wash

Flush, wash then use your sleeve (or other appropriate item of clothing) to wrap around your fingers to open the door handle if its not a push door.

@Northernsoullover

Flush, wash, then open doors with a wad of tissue.
The only way it should be done obvs.

Even if the rest of the population didn't flush then wash (hint, they do!) then there's still the consideration that when you flush the contents of the toilet are aerosolised and will settle on all the surfaces, so the flush handle will be dirty anyway.

The aim is surely to touch nothing in the toilet room after washing hands, as people are fithy bastards and some of them don't wash their hands at all?!

NameyNameyNameChangey · 18/06/2021 21:27

Ideally I suppose it should be wash, flush, wash but thats never going to happen.
Flush and then wash.

RaindropsOnRosie · 18/06/2021 21:27

I either flush and wash or wash, use toilet paper to pull chain and open door handle. I'm a slight germophobe though so nothing feels clean in a bathroom.

Jaxhog · 18/06/2021 21:31

Close lid, flush, wash hands.
Leave, then hand sanitize.

@Youdoyoutoday

Press the flush with a piece of tissue then wash hands but I admit I'm ever so slightly weird about things like this.

I like his logic but he’s failing to acknowledge the amount of humans who are either selfish or stupid or both. So on that basis I’ll flush then wash and look out for myself and my own hygiene like everyone else!

I’ve just told dh about this, he’s a huge germaphobe and I’m absolutely cracking up at his response, he said “who on earth washes their hands then flushes the loo” then he said he hopes I don’t actually touch the flush with my hands in a public toilet apparently he uses his foot or loo roll to touch it hahaha.

I'm very impressed with his flexibility if he flushes with his foot.

Your dh is weird

@NouvelleMamanNouvelleVie you clearly missed the thread where masses of MNers came out in solidarity at NOT washing their hands after using the toilet Envy (vomit emoji)

But yes you are right. Flush then wash

NouvelleMamanNouvelleVie · 18/06/2021 23:16

@Traveller3367 really? Point me to it I'm intruiged :-)

Having watched Get Well Soon with Dr Ranj on CBeebies, it's definitely flush first. He says "wipe front to back then flush then wash" Grin

BeHappyAndSmile · 18/06/2021 23:21

I'm in shock at this. Just asked my partner and he said the thought process behind this hurt his brain Grin

(He also agreed, flush then wash and try not to touch anything on the way out)

Dora26 · 18/06/2021 23:25

You need to get out more!

NouvelleMamanNouvelleVie · 19/06/2021 00:36

Getting out more requires using public toilets.
You've missed the crux of the thread.
