Should I whistle blow?

Just that really. I work in a school and I'm just sick of all the shitty treatment that support staff get. The head of school is a sleazy old man who makes inappropriate comments about peoples bodies, he flirts with quite a few women and when it comes to recruitment he doesn't employ according to best candidate but employs women who he has 'banter' with. A few of the people he has said crude comments to have said they dont like it but the others play along with it and seem to enjoy the perks of it, such as leaving early or even being offered other posts with out being interviewed.

I am currently looking for a new job as the whole place is effecting me and a few others mentally.

Should I whistle blow or should I suck it up and leave.

If so who do I complain to? Governors?

Just tell him you find his comments offensive and to please stop if he doesn't then make a complaint through the official channels. tbh although inappropriate Im not sure its career ending stuff....
Also how does he just hire people? Surely people hired are through an interview process by a panel of governors and can't be the principle or head of departments making the decision... my partner works in a school and the hiring process is very strict over the whole country.

Don’t do it. No one will thank you and you will pay with your mental health. Sorry op but there is a reason why protection for WB had to be put in place in law as it was so common to be badly treated.

@Yuppie20

He does the hiring. The last interview process consisted of him and another member of SLT who happens to be very close friends with the candidate that got the job. The candidate was actually missing an essential qualifications that was mentioned in the job criteria, this was over looked. When people questioned it, the response was we decided it wasnt essential as long as they have an equivalent qualifications. It was a load of shit, they knew all along who they were going to hire, the interview process was just a formality they had to do

I thought every school had a whistleblower policy? If not the LEA? Good luck

MissCruellaDeVil · 18/06/2021 21:08

@Mollymalone123
They do, but only because it's a requirement. I would always whistleblow, but only if you have a backup plan to get out. Many Whistleblowers are not protected and are bullied out.

Aprilx · 18/06/2021 21:33

This is not a matter for whistleblowing , which has a specific meaning in law. Whistleblowing has nothing to do with individual matters such bullying or discrimination, these are grievances. So you need to refer to the grievance procedures, not whistleblowing procedures.
