What do you use, what do you recommend?

I'm having my implant out on Monday and I can't wait. That thing deserves to burn in a fiery hell pit.

But what to try next...?! I am thinking the non hormonal coil perhaps as I'm reluctant to try anything hormonal now after the awful experience with the implant.

Does anyone have this? Good? Bad? Please help Smile

They hard sell coils here and you almost never hear of the Nuvaring or patch, which are quite common in Europe.

'The pill' is the most commonly used contraceptive in this country but it has two hormones with their different issues. It is great for cycle control, reducing bleeding, acne, it works well if taken properly etc. It carries an increased risk of stroke, blood clots etc so is not recommended for those who carry an increased risk eg overweight inactive smokers or those who have a history of migraine with aura.nuvaring and patch have the same pros and cons apart from, for some people, being easier to remember. They have never taken off in the uk as their advantages over usual pills are minimal.
Coils and implants aren't 'pushed' as such except , appropriately, for their efficacy. They are more effective.
There are lots of choices but all have side effects and you have to decide what is most appropriate for you at any particular point in your life. Eg I was on the pill when young, once married we used condoms, after 2 DC I had a copper coil and after DC3 had a further copper coil. Other women will make different choices at different times.

@BumCat if I'm honest, right now I'm very very single and happy like that. But when there was someone in the picture I didn't notice that it had had an impact.

Certainly not like the pill and both coils I tried which either killed my sex drive stone dead or made me bleed constantly so even if I did want to have sex if would have been like the Texas chain saw massacre.

@Justgettingbye Depends on brand, you can get 12 kite/CE marked condoms in Poundland for £1, or 3 Durex for £1. In supermarkets/chemists Mates/Passante are quite cheap too (about £5 for 12 I think. Now we buy Durex on Amazon in bulk and they work out about 20p-30p each depending on what's on offer. I think they're free from Family planning clinics too aren't they? I've never used this so not sure if they're available still or due to Covid.

Mirena coil is fab!

PassionfruitOrangeGuava · 20/06/2021 16:26

The contraceptive pill has always worked great for me, simple to use, no side effects and gives so much freedom. A revolutionary invention.

HippeePrincess · 20/06/2021 16:52

I loved the mirena, I’m also loving the nuvaring, very much disliked the implant made me feel so unwell and bleed awfully.
