Freaked out by spider bite in bed

Just lying here trying to get back to sleep after night feeding my baby and suddenly felt an itch and then my wrist starts really hurting. Had a look and it's all blotchy and swollen in one area, thought I'd just laid on it funny. Half an hour later it's really sore with pain travelling all the way up to my elbow and there's definitely a clear sore area where it started from.
Have I been bitten by a spider in my bed? A false widow maybe? Hmm
Turned the light on and Hunted around but I can't see anything. Don't want baby to be got, it really hurts! She's in the cot next to me.
I'm properly freaked out now. And in a lot of pain!

Do I need to do anything to treat it? I've taken ibuprofen

Are you on the south coast OP? They are bloody rife round here. Yes it sounds like a false widow bite. Anti-histamine will see you right. You won’t find the spider, false widows can run like lightning. They love folded clothes and dusty corners so keep your room clear and clean as much as possible. Flowers

Not on the coast, in south London. I've had lots of washing on the bed today so maybe it was hiding in there. Really don't want it to pop up in my baby's cot.
Little bastard! It really hurts and I can't get back to sleep. Can't take antihistamine as I'm breastfeeding. How long do the bites usually take to calm down?

A few days to a week if it is indeed a false widow and you can’t take meds. If it gets any worse seek medical attention, they can cause a very nasty reaction in some people.

Possibly a mosquito, they are everywhere in summer months.

I woke up covered in spider parts the other day. I do t think it managed to bite me before I obliterated it

You can take antihistamines if breastfeeding, loratadine and cetirizine are both fine

Hope you feel better!

Grin at the idea of you waking up covered in hundreds of spider limbs

False widows are very shy and rarely go near people. Not many U.K. spiders can bite human skin but those that can usually leave 2 tiny fang marks and at worst some redness and swelling. They only bite defensibility not aggressively.

Assuming you’re not allergic and have no signs of infection?

Could it have been a wasp/bee/horsefly/mosquito?
