Desperate to start my own business, but how??

Seriously, how do people do it if they haven't got money upfront/come from money??

I've always wanted to own my own business. I hate working for other people. I hate being micromanaged, which most employers do.
I'd love to either own an air b&b business (own a few different properties) or my own child care business (nursery preferably) as I have a lot of child care experience/qualifications.

I don't have money, I don't come from money and I doubt I'll be in a position where I come into money any time soon. So how the hell do people do it? I hate the thought of having to work for someone else for the rest of my life.

Would love to hear some positive stories

You don''t need a business plan unless you need to borrow money.

@Panaesthesia

"I just don't have any money" says a poster who 'owns multiple properties'. Um, sell one.
I think that's a goal, not current state

Your reasons for wanting to have your own business are short sighted. Believe me, you still have a boss when you are self employed, in fact you have lots, your customers/clients. And you can't just leave them or go off on sick or take some holiday entitlement, unless you can afford not to get paid.
Running a business is THE hardest job I have ever done. You are the Jack of all trades and when your head is above the door, every responsibility falls on your shoulders. Staff management and payroll, bills, bringing in more money, taxes, as well as being the technician (doing the job that earns the money in the first place).
There's a lot to be said for being an employee and I've considered going back to being one repeatedly over the last ten years.

A well off shop keeper near me is using Crowdfunding site to fund her latest venture and has about 20k so far.....her family are millionairs abroad so helped her first restaurant start up....theres quite a few women who run a businesses near me and bleat on about how they started out in a market stall etc and suddenly bought a shop and a house....then further digging and we find out all of them have very very rich parents...!!

Yes but not being an employee can have huge advantages too.
I agree about still having to meet the needs of clients or customers, but I have total flexibility with my time. I can slow down, speed up, have a month off, work 7 days or walk out for the afternoon.
Not possible with an Air B&B, but in my position yes.
I can stop and sunbathe in the garden if I like.

SpaceRaiders · 17/06/2021 22:02

Why is it not possible to have flexibility with a holiday let business? Do people really think they’re run as a one man band type enterprise Confused

FWIW I take every single August off and pretty much everything can be managed anywhere with decent WI-FI.

SpaceRaiders · 17/06/2021 22:05

And I’d say you will need a business plan regardless of acquiring any lending.

Fail to plan. Plan to fail.

You can do all of those things but you won't have a successful business. Unless of course you don't need to earn any money. In which case, why bother working at all.

I do all these things and I earn more money than I need- twice as much as my OH who works full time in IT.

What skills do you think you need to run your own business? What skills do you have?

What kind of business? Will you need a loan to set up, to buy stock, or do you mean a service business?

There is loads of information out there on how to write business plans, get loans, start up your own business so you need to get Googling!

You will need to be motivated, be a self-starter, able to advertise yourself, market yourself, find clients, do the everyday admin... as well as actually run your business.

Savings, a loan and starting small/part time

You have to choose something you're good at and with sensibly low start up costs. We don't come from money. Dh started his business with about £1500 while working FT in a low paid job he hated. He worked evenings and weekends (while we had a new baby and I was on mat leave) while working his regular job during the day until he was making enough money to quit. That was 8 years ago. Even with COVID, he's turned over £300K this past year and is drawing a very good salary.

"Progress does not standstill. In today's world, a lot of money is made on the Internet. The turnover of funds of many sites is unimaginable. Today, one site can bring in tens of times more income than a store or factory. In today's reality, investing in the Internet, no matter how silly it sounds, is already a good idea. People create their sites, and the clear favorites are marketplaces like Amazon, etc. I am an active seller on Amazon and recently I wondered how to increase my income. On the internet, I came across an article sageseller.com/blog/complete-guide-how-to-integrate-amazon-fba-with-shopify/ . In which they explained to me in detail how to make more money in the shortest possible time.

I want to say that trading on the Internet in such markets helps everyone to make money, the main thing is to know what to offer the buyer."
