Boob pubes. What next?!

WilsonMilson · 16/06/2021 16:59

I’m being lighthearted (ish) about this, but jeez what’s next? I recently, at the ripe old age of 44, have started sprouting what can only be described as displaced pubic hair on my breasts.
Not on my nipples or areola, on the actual boob. I mean, not a rug or anything too noticeable, but just a few stray dark hairs here and there. Mortifying really - who wants hairy boobs?

I’ve been scared to pluck them due to the old saying that two will come to the funeral, so I’ve been cutting them carefully with scissors whilst wondering that’s coming next?

I’m assuming this is part of peri menopause as I’m also having terrible heavy and achey periods, my lower back aches generally despite being fit and slim, am increasingly miserable interspersed with moments of incredible anger at everyone and everything. Am not sleeping very well, am tired all the damn time and am dry as a bone downstairs (sorry). I suppose the boob pubes feel like a small concern in comparison, but somehow also the icing on an increasingly shitty cake.

Aibu to ask what next? So far my forties have felt like an increasingly speedy decline into misery and decrepitude.

I had them around my nipples, plucked them out, and now they seem to have given up the ghost 🤞🏻
Also, I can recommend one of those home laser jobbies for your chin/upper lip stuff.
I overplucked my eyebrows (actually monobrow 😳) in my teens, and they never recovered. What kind of fuckery allows hair you don’t want to come back relentlessly, but hair that you would welcome ie. normal looking eyebrows, bloody well won’t.

WilsonMilson · 16/06/2021 17:47

@sotiredofthislonelylife my eyebrows have never recovered from the 90’s either. Apparently they’ve migrated south!

@WilsonMilson

Goodness, I didn’t know this was a thing. Mine have only just appeared and assumed it was yet feature of my advancing years.

Maybe I’m not over the hill yet, this is indeed good news!

There isn’t one weird symptom that doesn’t appear on the menopause shopping list of delights! (But of course worth checking out symptoms for other causes as @DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat rightly says).

If you’re anything like me then you’ll do the whole lot except for the classic hot flush at which point your GP will decide there’s nothing going on because no hot flush = no perimenopause. I started with rage too and I remember sitting there seething over something tiny and thinking at the same time “WTF is going on? Why am I so angry??”. But boob pubes have been with me for many years.

Have a look at Menopause Matters, if a hairy chest and a handlebar moustache are on the cards they’ll know what to do.

PandemicPalava · 16/06/2021 18:02

I keep getting random thick hairs growing out of my cheeks, but quite high up!

justasking111 · 16/06/2021 18:22

Plucked hair on my cheeks last week long black ones thank god for magnification mirror. @WilsonMilson please get tested to see if you're suitable for HRT you're only 44

DinosaurDiana · 16/06/2021 18:27

@WilsonMilson

I’m blonde haired - dishwater these days, which I guess might be why I’ve never noticed this before as I’m not generally dark of hair.

I’m glad I’m not alone! I don’t think it’s PCOS as I don’t have any other symptoms of it. Am a bit fed up of GP fobbing everything off as my age though - palpitations, heavy periods, generally low mood etc.
Wondering if hrt might help me, didn’t fancy the coil and not on the pill. Would rather now feel a hundred years old, but also feel a bit young to be thinking of hrt.

Have you had your iron levels checked ? I thought my palpitations were peri menopause but found out it was low ferritin.
DontWiltMySpinachPlease · 16/06/2021 18:27

As a 20 something PCOS sufferer I get these all the time 😂 I just pluck them out.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 16/06/2021 18:30

Heavy (and or irregular/missed) periods are definitely a symptom of PCOS. It might not be, but it might be. Definitely explore HRT options though OP - earlier maybe better according to latest thinking.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 16/06/2021 18:44

Nope, I'm 31 and have had a stray book hair for a few years now. I either shave it or pluck it away, although I was pregnantrecentlyand it disappeared. Unfortunately it's back now. It turned into 2 hairs about 6 months after the first time I noticed it.
I also noticed last night I have little clusters of tiny blonde hair on the underside of my boobs. Weird!

Justlovedogs · 16/06/2021 18:44

Random dark hairs in various places here. Front of neck, boobs, inner thigh (bikini line migrating, I think), collar bone area. Been appearing for years but worse as I get older. My late DM was the same. My decent tweezers are my friend. Blush

JustGiveMeGin · 16/06/2021 19:07

I am very dark haired and a hairy beast Blush as yet I don't have boob hair but I get it pretty much everywhere else!
My top tips are carry tweezers at all times (once you notice the bugger you can get it!) And get a decent epillator, I do my face, top of my arms, underarms, bikini area and.....backside.
Shaving etc only hides the problem, I prefer full on warfare Grin

Birkie248 · 16/06/2021 19:11

@OrchestraOfWankery

I'm very darked haired and very dark hairy Grin

I pluck the fuckers.

Yes me too, I’ve had them ever since I can remember so I’m less horrified by them now. I had absolutely no idea pubes went grey too until I found a couple. Now my bastard eyebrows are going grey too.
HughGrantsHair · 16/06/2021 19:14

Yep. I pluck the boobs, chin and neck for those random thick stupid hairs that always come back. Have done for years!

Ridingthegravytrain · 16/06/2021 19:15

The really annoying thing about them is one day there aren’t there and the next they are an inch long. How?!?!

SheSaidHummingbird · 16/06/2021 19:17

www.self.com/story/is-nipple-hair-normal

Totally normal.

Ladywinesalot · 16/06/2021 19:20

Oh dear god thank you for this thread.
I’m a couple years off you and now know what to expect.
Dear woman, just pluck the fuckers…

VestaTilley · 16/06/2021 19:21

YANBU, though I’ve always had them on my nipples since I can remember Confused - I pluck them out at the root with tweezers.

I also get face pubes springing out of my jaw line Hmm horrendous!

BetterThanKleenex · 16/06/2021 19:24

I can't recommend anything for your boob pubes but a TENS machine may help your period and lower back pain. Lloyds pharmacy do one for about £14 it's excellent when you get the hang of it. My menopausal friends swear by it for all their new cramps and aches.

Justlovedogs · 16/06/2021 19:25

@Ridingthegravytrain - I've noticed that too. WTF? How? Confused

@VestaTilley - I'd forgotten about face (chin and jawline - argh!) Blush

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 16/06/2021 19:29

I get the odd one on my boobs too. I hate it but pull it out.

Fnib · 16/06/2021 19:34

My tweezers are the most important thing in the bathroom. Perhaps second to toothbrush, on reflection 🤔 Random hairs come out of nowhere and seem to grow an inch overnight!

Fnib · 16/06/2021 19:34

I meant my bathroom, obviously!

TheMotherlode · 16/06/2021 19:35

Haha, I just have the one. I like to leave it and see how long I can grow it before DH notices and complains.

Smolgoose · 16/06/2021 19:40

I get boob pubes! The worst is when I miss one, and it gets horrifyingly long, like 2 inches. I wonder if I left one intentionally how long it would get!??

I sometimes get a really thick translucent hair growing out my cheek... It's like a pig bristle!

WilsonMilson · 16/06/2021 20:27

I’m glad I’ve found my people! Grin

I do wonder just how long they would get if left to grow. No sooner have I snipped them and they’re back with a vengeance. Great dark long things, like spider legs.

I haven’t noticed any on my jawline yet runs to check magnifying mirror. I remember an old friend of my mother’s had hairs growing out of moles around her jaw and her chin and she never ever plucked them. I was transfixed by them as a youngster.
