Do any of you work in healthcare communications?

I have started applying to entry-level healthcare communications jobs. Do any of you have any advice for the application process and potential interviews?

I only have an undergraduate and a master's degree (no PhD) and I'm applying for entry-level positions.

One specific question I did have is at university I achieved some pretty high grades in my written assessments (e.g. 95% in an essay). Would it be appropriate to highlight a few of those examples in my CV or is that not really the done thing?

I used to. A number of big med comms groups run entry level programmes which are ideal for you. A masters is fine, providing you have a biological sciences degree, but you will need to do a writing test and possibly an assessment centre if it is medical writing you are interested in. Definitely highlight your writing skills. Salary and progression is very good once you are trained. It is a really good career for science graduates. And you can work flexibly from home if you want to. Google med comms networking for more information about the industry. Pm me if you want further information.

Thank you for your reply! I have heard back from one agency and they have requested a writing test. Is this a good sign or do they send writing tests to all applicants?

Do you have any advice for doing well in the writing test?

I thought I'd give an update. I passed my first writing assessment and I have now got an interview next week, eek! I found the feedback from the writing test really helpful, it was really detailed.

I also now have two more writing tests to do for two other agencies.
