Thinking about buying a garden swing for a 13 year old...?

My 13 yr old DD loves to go on a swing. As expected, she is too self-conscious to go on one now unless she is with a similarly-aged friend. She says she's sad about having to avoid playgrounds as she loves using the equipment but is accepting of ruling out that type of play due to age. She doesn't want to go in the evenings as you get lots of teens congregating in the playground and she's naturally a bit scared. I'm thinking I could put her out of her misery and just buy one - 10 years too late I know. AIBU?

I'm going to go for it. TBH, we've already got a trampoline which has spent a few years in the garden (and I am sick of looking at it) so I was slightly reluctant to get even more garden furniture - but the current thinking on teen mental health (reaffirmed by your comments) has made me think that a bit of self-soothing down-time away from screens and everyone in the household may prove beneficial.

It's good to encourage play - I would do it.

I'm on the verge of ordering a swing from Brave toys for my 13 year old (they have younger sibs though). Just got to dig up a conifer first to make space!

Hi, @LyricalBoudicca sorry I know it's been a while since you posted this. I'm thinking of getting a swing for my 13-year-old as she really misses her old one. The problem was she used it so much, that as she got bigger it just wasn't safe. I'm wondering if you found a sturdy solution? Thank you

Brave Toys do swings for adult weights

We have a plank on a rope hanging from a tree. Very sturdy but not complicated. Last Hallowe’en we had the 20 year olds (supposed to be minding the little ones) ask if they could swing on it as it’s in the front yard.

DH wants to remove it but I refuse to let him as I love it there so much. It looks so friendly, I think.

And I do notice this is an old thread.

What about a swinging bench thingy? That seats 3-4 people?
It could be fun for everyone to use, and she could hang out on it with her mates. It doesn't seem childish to do that, and it could stay for many years.
