Panicking! - Does anyone know anything about La Crosse in Wisconsin?

My DD is planning to move to La Crosse, but I'm reading that the crime rates there are really high. Does anyone have any knowledge of the area? TIA.

I've been to La Crosse a few times for work (I am based in the UK). It's really pretty and quiet. I can't comment about specific crime rates but it felt safe to me. My colleagues commented that you can walk anywhere at any time without worrying about personal safety. It is a college town and full of bars which seemed lively (I didn't check them out). Great location on the Mississippi with the Bluffs behind the city, if she likes the outdoors.
