Eurghhhh I bought it yesterday and it’s well within date. Had a big mouthful and it tasted of pure vomit, spat it out immediately of course. I could really do with not getting food poisoning right now!

Doesn't that cause cancer. Allegedly

Virtually everything causes cancer. Allegedly.

Suzi888 · 13/06/2021 20:43

@mrscurrants you can’t reheat fish?! Shock I never knew!

coogee · 13/06/2021 20:56

As long as the fish isn’t already off you can reheat it and eat it.

mrscurrants · 13/06/2021 21:09

@coogee @Suzi888
Must have been something dodgy about it then. Student days. Could have been the rice. I thought it was just rice I was microwaving (with veg and stuff in it), but found out there was fish in it too as I was eating. Clear case of body just rejecting the food very quickly, whatever it was! Awful!

Yesitsbess · 13/06/2021 21:38

@Ostryga ARE YOU DEAD YET? TWO KNOCKS FOR YES.

sausageisassausagedoes · 13/06/2021 21:43

@30degreesandmeltinghere

Maybe an Uncle Joe's mintball will sort you out....
Are you from Wigan too?
AlternativePerspective · 13/06/2021 21:44

Food poisoning doesn't happen within an hour, so I can assure you it's not the wrap.

You’re wrong. It 100% was the wrap, I hadn’t eaten anything else that day, and whatever we ate the night before was eaten by everyone, and no-one else was ill.

The only thing I am grateful for is that I’d only eaten half of it otherwise I would clearly have been much sicker.

I have written to waitrose accordingly, not because I want compensating but because the reaction was so severe they need to be aware in case there is an issue with this product.

Bearing in mind this is often how products end up being recalled - when people report effects to them and it turns out there is an issue.

No but had Football Songs on Spotify today pre match to get in the mood and it can on!! Bloody hilarious!!

It was most probably the rice. Rice is one of the worst things for making you ill if it isn't absolutely piping hot throughout.

Food poisoning doesn't happen within an hour

It can, but that's usually only seafood, and then usually only shellfish. (Not many people know that white fish/smoked white fish can't give you food poisoning, even if it's a month out of date! Might not have much taste though!)

Anyway, it's very unlikely with red meat or game (which duck is) and even 'off cooked chicken in that short time.

And I've had food poisoning from game! Don't want that again - but it took several hours to kick in (as opposed to shellfish, which, as mentioned above, is generally quite quick). An hour or so is very rare and too quick for duck. Especially duck thoroughly cooked Chinese-style for a wrap.

But perhaps you were particularly unlucky...

WarmAndFluff · 13/06/2021 22:52

Food poisoning doesn't happen within an hour, so I can assure you it's not the wrap.

Depends on what's causing the food poisoning. If you've eaten something which has had a load of toxin producing bacteria (eg some Staphylococcus species) it's literally food poisoning and you can have stomach cramps and vomiting quite quickly.

If you have a food-borne infection eg Salmonella it comes much later and further along the gut.

And yes, Bacillus cereus from rice is a toxin producer so is another one with a very quick onset - apparently quite nasty, and the toxins aren't removed by re-heating the rice.

WarmAndFluff · 13/06/2021 22:54

Lots of different viruses and bacteria cause food borne infections in shellfish so depends which one it is.

Serin · 13/06/2021 23:23

Uncle Joe's mintballs keep you all aglow,
Give em to you grandma and watch the bugger go.

Looks like we're are all from Wigan. Grin

elfycat · 13/06/2021 23:34

I second the gin option. Have it as strong as you can bear it. I found the suggestion while looking for ways to avoid D&V on foreign holidays to places with dodgy food hygiene. Gin came up (and I like gin so was keen to try this cure)

DH had terrible food poisoning in Egypt on a dive trip. I was taking a shot of gin before eating anything. Guess who had to have antibiotics for a month?

Next year we both took the gin cure 3 times a day. No bugs.

Even if the gin doesn't stop food poisoning, at least you'd be slightly chilled about the idea. Only one mind... you don't want to pre-dehydrate.

Lilibet2022 · 14/06/2021 00:10

If you didn't eat it you'll probably be fine. I once had a very gone off chicken baked product from a well know food chain and was as sick as a pig all night.
Was absolutely fine by the next afternoon. Hope you stay well and there's no chundering involved.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/06/2021 00:19

I hope you are ok. if not, dibs on your laptop, diamond earrings and any wool stash you may possess😁

Tavelo · 14/06/2021 00:38

Even if it does have bad bacteria you're unlikely to become very ill from a mouthfull. In any case, food poisoning usually takes half a day or so to fully develop.

@AlternativePerspective, what you had sounds more like an allergic reaction. Check whether the wrap had sesame in it.

It can be as quick as minutes after you eat something off.
RhusTox · 14/06/2021 07:43

I had food poisoning from a Greggs vegan sausage roll.
Violent vomiting 45 minutes after eating it which went on for 12 hours.

So yes, it can happen within an hour.

theDudesmummy · 14/06/2021 07:48

You can definitely get sick sooner than an hour for some things. I got sick from oysters in a restaurant once, it took less than 30 minutes before I had to spend the rest of the meal in the restaurant toilet

MissJSmith · 14/06/2021 07:55

I’m going to take one for the team.
Pours herself a large gin...

Sending healing vibes.

BarbarianMum · 14/06/2021 07:59

Hopefully you'll be fine.

The time I got salmonella I started feeling queasy within a couple of hours and the vomiting started 8 hours or so later. Awful. Sad
