About a year if you want to do it healthily and give yourself the best shot at keeping it off long term

User66617288 · 13/06/2021 15:24

Thanks I did kind of assume I would be in the long haul. As they say you don’t become overweight overnight so it won’t come off overnight either!

Well, 84lbs at a sensible rate of 1-2lbs a week... I'd say anywhere between 12 and 20 months?

I have 4st to lose. By this time next year would be good.

TwoAndAnOnion · 13/06/2021 15:26

It took me 5 months with Slimming World, at a steady 3lb a week. But that was rigid, no sugar, fat, or alcohol and excessive gym work too

User66617288 · 13/06/2021 15:27

Yes I don’t think I would manage no set backs to be honest

I need to lose about 6 stone. In the last year I have lost about 2 st. However I have eaten a nutrionally balanced diet, only exercise has been walking 10000 steps a day and I eat 2100 calories per day so I'm protecting my metabolism for when I get to a lower weight. What I know is, I have done this before with SW and WW and it is not sustainable. 6st is hard to lose. What I'm learning is not only how to lose it but how to maintain that loss. Before you decide on your path consider that or you will end up where you started. Good luck

ZealAndArdour · 13/06/2021 16:02

I’ve lost 7.5st in 6 months, but I’ve had weight loss surgery.

peanutbutterandfluff · 13/06/2021 16:39

Took me about a year to lose 5 stone. Calorie counting. Had to get quite strict at the end (started at 1750 calories a day, eventually down to 1200 a day). Lost another stone over the next 9 months but I wasn’t as strict and that just vanity weight.

Wombats12 · 13/06/2021 16:45

Yep, I'm losing on roughly 1800 calories a day under the supervision of a dietetics team. I'm very impressed so far, moving away from calories to more portion control & macros. I've lost something like 500g in a month but I need sustainable loss & for reasons to do with adhd, I don't want to be too hungry.

Have a look at Precision Nutrition for this type of thing. 👌

Tl:dl. Yep, it might take a while.

myfuckingfreezer · 13/06/2021 16:46

I lost 4 stone in 6 months with no surgery. Just healthy eating and exercise. But it had slowed towards the end so I'd say months for 6stone

ThatOtherPoster · 13/06/2021 16:55

I lost 4 stone in 6 months doing the Scarsdale diet. Kept it off for 10 years then piled it on in a year. 🙄 Then I did ww and lost the 4 stone again in a year. The first 3 stone only took 4 months but the final stone took ages.

You’ll be really happy begore you’ve lost the full 6 stone, though. You’ll be feeling amazing after you’ve lost the first 5lbs. So there’ll be loads of happy milestones to keep you going.

OutLikeLight · 13/06/2021 17:00

It took me 15 months to lose 6 stone, but the last stone was the most stubborn and took 3 months of that time! From a size 20/22 to a size 10.

That was a decade ago, and at the start of the 1st lockdown I started weight training and I'm now a size 8 but exactly the same weight!

Slow and steady is the most healthy way, and best way to keep it off, at least it has been for me.

User66617288 · 13/06/2021 17:02

Well done to everyone that’s lost weight

I’ve lost 7 stone 2 lbs in 9.5 months. Meal replacement and no cheating in the day, and a largely salad based main meal in the evening. Probably on 1700 calories a day at the start, and now on 1,200 ish a day, as the rate of loss had slowed right down. 1 stone to go, then I have to learn how to maintain.

myBumJuiceSmellsLikeRoses · 14/06/2021 09:41

It took me 15 months.

Oneborneverydecade · 14/06/2021 09:47

I lost 4.5st in about 6 months with LCHF. Slow and steady will avoid your metabolism dropping and make it easier to maintain (my loss was probably too quick). Good luck OP and well done to all the other losers

gingerscot · 14/06/2021 09:49

Took me a year to lose 3 stone but during that time I learned how to eat healthy and exercise and that was long enough to make it a habit - kept it off now for 20 years.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 14/06/2021 09:50

I read recently that the fastest way to lose weight is actually the slowest, which kind of resonated. Good luck.

fat13 · 14/06/2021 09:54

I’ve lost 5 stone this year - it’s hit and miss tbh. Some weeks you cheat and inexplicably lose weight and then three weeks later you have an amazing week and maintain!

FuckyouCovid21 · 14/06/2021 10:01

2 years to lose 10 stone by loosely following the principles of WW (not points, the other plan) and I've kept it off for a couple of years

ItWasTheBestOfTimes · 14/06/2021 10:30

I've lost 6 stone since mid January this year, mix of Cambridge diet, and LCHF/fast800 'normal' intermittent fasting if I have social commitments that week. I've had the occasional full cheat day. I've been out lots over this past month and went on holiday over half term but have managed to maintain. Hoping to get another 2 stone off by September with another round of fast800.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/06/2021 10:37

Depends on whether you're talking about going from 25 stone to 19 stone or 15 stone to 9 stone. Weight loss will slow down a lot the closer you get to a healthy weight.

I've known several people do it in around 6 months.

What you have to remember is that the odd little set back will have probably no bearing at all on your overall weight loss. Plus that weight loss, when you look at actual loss of fat not fluid is not linear and doesn't happen immediately after a good/bad day etc. At any time your weight can vary by a few pounds for many reason that have nothing to do with the amount of fat you carry.

However you choose to do it, it has to be sustainable and viewed as a lifestyle change, not something you can do for a few months, before thinking 'I'm thin now, I can eat what I like and as much as I want to' because that's likely to put you back in a position where you again need to lose 6 stones.

So you need to think about eating sensible portions of healthy food most of the time, but be flexible enough to cope with the odd takeaway, bar of chocolate, meal out, holiday, etc etc. Because that's what life is.

BeastOfBODMAS · 14/06/2021 11:15

I lost 6.5 stone in 16 months, and a couple of those stones I had to lose twice due to lavish Christmases and 1st lockdown. Slow going but I think having to get back ‘on the wagon’ was valuable- once you’ve done it once you know you can do it again

CantEnjoySummer · 14/06/2021 12:11

Depends how much you have to lose.

Has taken me January-now to lose 5 stone.

Still 1.5 to go but if course it's slowed down now I have less to lose. I started at 16 stone.

Also of course depends if you stick to it. Which the vast majority of people don't. (My past self included)
